This is a home-grown ambient lighting setup for XBMC running on a Raspberry PI.
It is kind of like the phillips ambilight tv sets but looks a lot more intense.
Not for everyone, but pretty cool nonetheless.

I'm sure there are a variety of reasons people are going to hate that but it looks like fun to me. I see myself turning it off after a week and only putting it back when people come over.

For years I had a Philis TV with ambialight. When I got it I figured I would just off. Seemed like a gimmick to me. However, it was awesome. Once I tried watching a movie without it and hated it. I use a projector now do its not necessary, but when I do my office this summary and put in a flat screen,I will be adding bias lighting

That looks awesome.... I would love to do that in my HT and would venture to try it even though it's a projector and screen. Only reason I won't is because it's a screen on a false wall. If ti were a screen on a solid wall I think I would go for it, I really love the lighting effects it gives off.

Whilst not wanting to knock your effort or ingenuity (especially as another RPi user), that effect would annoy the crap out of me.
