Been searching all over, but can't find what I am looking for.

I'm making some changes to my setup and one thing I want to do is give my HTPC the smallest footprint in the living room possible. Right now, my HTPC has a Ceton InfiniTV and a Blu-ray drive in it. I haven't used the BR drive in probably 2 years (do all my ripping on my desktop) and I'm thinking of either moving the InfiniTV to my server or swapping out for an HDHomeRunPrime.

That would leave just the mortherboard and hard drive in my HTPC case. That leaves a lot of empty space in there so I wanted to see if I could find a case that was narrower (IE cut off the 6 inches or so that the external drive bay takes up on the right side) and shorter (no need for expansion cards).

I'm even open to an external power supply if that works.

I can't find ANYTHING though that meets that criteria. Any suggestions?

It sounds like you want to stick with a board you already have, but you should at least look into the costs of switching to mini-ITX (or if you want the ABSOLUTE smallest, an Intel NUC).

Main reason I'm trying not to switch boards is we have a TON of kid's shows archived with CopyOnce, so I'll have to try to re-record them if rebuild with a new board. Plus ITX boards seem to run around $100.

I think though that I may have no choice. Microcenter has some nice ITX boards that get their $40 off with CPU bringing the cost around $60. Since I need to upgrade my desktop, I might just buy the chip I want with an ITX board, then switch it with the HTPC and start setting up the shows again. good news is wife is out of town for 3 weeks this summer, so might do it the day she leaves and with anyluck, by the time she gets back, she won't notice any difference but the size of the box!

I've been really pleased with the SILVERSTONE MILO Series ML03B Micro ATX Media Center / HTPC Case I built my bedroom PC in.  It's often ridiculed for its tight quarters yet I placed a SSD, 2 x 2TB HDDs, mATX mobo and a DVD burner into it!  It's a great addition and looks like a piece of stereo or rack equipment - not like a PC.  And, your Ceton would fit using the low-profile bracket!

Thanks, but that's basically the same size I have now.

I was also going to suggest the ML03. The Silverstone GD05 is also shallow, but full height.

I just bought the Silverstone sg01b-f for my HTPC. The only real complaint would be the 80mm fans in it, but you can alter things a bit (which I'm in the process of doing). I bought mine used for around $55, so not bad at all.

Edit: here was the other silverstone mATX case I was looking at, too

I had an old Antec cube case like those. I liked it, but the wife did not. That's the width I'm looking for, but really would like to get the height down to about half.
