I am planning a (non gaming) HTPC build and as the result of a fair amount of browsing I have come up with the following components as hopefully being of reasonable quality as a starter:
TBS 6280 Dual Freeview HD Low-profile PCIe TV Tuner Card DVB-T2
Asus P8Z77-M mini-ATX board
i3 3225 processor
4 GB DDR3 RAM
WD Red WD10EFRX SATA 6Gb/s 1TB

I have not decided on a case as yet and have a good very quiet Seasonic power supply and some Noctua and Scythe fans available if required. I plan to start off with WMC on Win 7 64 bit.

Am I on the right track so far?

Most of the folks on this board would recommend an SSD drive (around 64 Gb or better) for your OS. Its generally a good idea to install the OS to a separate drive and leave the data drive (your 1Tb WD) for recorded TV, Music, etc. Also, the the increase in boot time and recovery from sleep is worth it.

Give some thought to how you intend to control your HTPC, too. Do you want to use a remote? A keyboard/mouse? A cell phone? Whether or not you're going with a remote affects what kind of case would be best for you. Some cases for HTPC builds have the remote receiver built in.

Looks like the tuner you selected is for the UK. Was that intentional?

Many thanks for the speedy response. My suggested setup was really to test the viability of the tuner and other basic components, should it all work the next stage would be some additional components such as an SSD for the OS, a BLU-ray player and a new case. I understand that the TBS tuner comes with a remote which should be OK to start with. The UK Freeview tuner is intentional - as this is a US/international forum am I unlikely to find anyone with experience of the card or the brand? Unfortunately HTPC related fora are a bit thin on the ground in the UK.

Your build as you listed above seems like it would work fine. As far as the tuner goes, searching the forum shows some hits (http://www.avsforum.com/newsearch?search=TBS+6280+Dual+Freeview). I didn't notice until after my post that a receiver is included with the tuner. It'll probably work for starters. Keep us posted.

1TB fills up pretty fast. Can you go 2 or 3TB?
