Hey folks

I recently upgraded my Panasonic AE4000 to the AE8000, which is connected to my HT/Gaming PC via HDMI 1.4. The PCs specs are:

i7 3770K
Dual GeForce GTX 780 in SLI
16GB DDR3 2133MHz
4 x SSDs
1 x 1TB HD
Creative ZXR sound card

I'm having a very strange problem that only started happening with the new projecto -I'm getting very bad stuttering/hiccuping when playing videos. It doesn't matter if they're Blu-ray, MKV or AVI, hosted locally or streamed over my network - they all stutter every few seconds. It also happens with VLC, PowerDVD 13 and WMP.

I've found a solution though - by changing my screen's refresh rate to 23Hz via the display screen resolution option. Yet I never had to do this with the AE4000 projector? What gives? It's not a huge problem, but is annoying, especially as I have to change it back to 60Hz when gaming.

Hope somebody can help!

Yep. Google refresh rate and HTPC. You'll find lots of threads... Enjoy.

a lot of players can auto change the refresh rate. madvr can do it for a directshow player, xbmc can do it too.

I've googled the heck out of the issue, but can't find a single, simple answer. What concerns me most is that my AE4000 projector did not exhibit this problem whatsoever in over 18 months of use. Yet the newer AE8000 showed it immediately. Surely there's a setting on the projector that I'm overlooking?

Is the projector the only display connected?

Yes, the projector is the only display device connected.

Just give utramon a try to lock down the refresh rate to your app. It just sounds like the projector does not like the video card, possible issue with reported EDID from the projector.

I use MediaPortal 1.4.0 as my front end and its Refresh Rate Changer option to select various refresh rates (that you configure) based on the metadata of the file you're trying to view.
