Seems like a hungry pig. But I bet this beast can compute.

OEM only. It is dangerous for a layman to build such a system.

Are we talking Global Thermonuclear War dangerous or just blow up your house dangerous?

Is it solipsistic in here, or is it just me?

If it puts out enough heat, it can find a nice home in many grow rooms...just pair it with an NVidia card and you have a heat producing monster.

This reminds of me of AMD Quad FX (Athlon 64 FX-74 / FX-72) in 2006, when AMD had no competitor of Intel Core 2 Quad/Extreme. It consumes much more power but it is still behind Intel.

It's interesting but I doubt I will sell off my 4770k for it.

That's probably a TDP of 220W, but not a real-world figure. I suspect cool'n'quiet will ramp that down a lot under normal use. For quick bursts when all cores are running full tilt, it will be a beast though.

Well it's over 200w for sure.
Total system power consumption: FX-8350 idle pulling 74w, stock load pulling 195w and overclocked to 4.8Ghz load pulling 294w. Difference from idle to load when oc'ed is 220w...
Stock 3770K idle 60w, load 120w..
And the load is x264 HD 5.0.1
That's just bad, bad, baaaaaaad. Even more bad considering OC'd to 4.8Ghz and it STILL can't match a STOCK 3770K in the 1st pass of the x264 benchmark.. Sure it flies pass the stock 3770K in 2nd pass but seriously, who the hell uses 2-pass encoding these days biggrin.gif

Your Avatar. Haswell E. That's the beast for encoding.

Considering we don't even have Ivy E yet, sadly still a long wait.

Can't wait for AMD Kaveri APU's this fall with GCN architecture. Those could be a real game changer in the HTPC world. Those will blow Intel's on die graphics completely out of the water. Here's a preview for HSA.

http://developer.amd.com/resources/heterogeneous-computing/what-is-heterogeneous-system-architecture-hsa/

With consoles optimized for similar x86 APU's from AMD, we might finally be able to get some decent gaming performance from our little HTPC's without a dedicated GPU. This is where AMD's R&D money is going right now, and it seems like a pretty smart move.

I bought an Athlon when the Pentium 4 came out, partially because it was a space heater rather than a computer chip. Now we have ultra-low power from intel and high-speed low ipc chips from AMD that require water cooling and your own hydroelectric plant to power.

I love the concept of "over-do" for simply the reason of nothing more than you can.

I respect that approach from a deep fundamental place in my heart. But I have no faith this product will be dominant in CPU power over Haswell E. Its glory will be short lived - if at all.

VR-Zone forum

There are a bunch of articles by professionals (TechPowerUp!, Guru of 3D, Hardware-Info.us, WCCF Tech), all of them just cited the above.
