most bluray drives are also subject to a "feature" called riplock. it slows the read speed of a drive way down, claiming its quieter while watching a movie. and theres probably some truth to that. the real reason though has to be to discourage and frustrate you in what youre doing.

if you dig around the web there are some guides and firmware floating around to remove this feature but ive never bothered with it.

You can change the region on many drives to remove this feature- or just flash it away with a firmware update. There is info on the MakeMKV forums.

I never bothered either. Mine works well enough.
