I have xbmc loaded to a computer, with all my movies loaded in standard def. Since I don't think the processor can handle blue ray. Anyway I am going to run the cable this week to my Onkyo receiver. I have a harmony one remote I would like to control everything with. Can someone point me in the right direction on how to do this and what hardware/software I may need.

Thanks

Duder

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Brand-NEW-Original-Genuine-HP-USB-MCE-IR-Wireless-Receiver-Win7-Vista-US-fast-/270929871250?pt=US_Remote_Controls_Pointers&hash=item3f14adc192

Buy one of these and program as:

Media Center PC – Microsoft – “Windows Media Center SE”

in the harmony software, nothing else to download.

Works with my computer to sleep and wake with the power toggle command.

So I just plug it into a usb port, and program it under harmony as media center pc-microsoft-"windows media center se". And all should work. Thanks that is what I have been looking for. How well is the ir range, as my computer is to the side of me and the receiver is in front of me. I guess I could all ways get a usb extension.

Thanks again.

I'm sure it's ok. I have my equipment in a closet and use the Harmony 1100 with the RF extender so an emitter is attached right to it.

No problem. This community is so helpful in many things, just a small way to pay it forward.

I was worried about the many knock offs. The wake/sleep commands were critical to me so I was thrilled to verify that it worked.

I've had it for about a month and so far it's been flawless.

Been using the same HP IR receiver for several years with a Harmony One. Works great.

Some non-MCE dongles work well too, especially with xbmc, like Ortek/Adesso. It's quite a bit smaller than the HP and has an extension built in. It doesn't work with windows media center codes, rather it uses Ortek codes. It has never failed to sleep/wake and also works great on raspberry pi.

EventGhost is a great app if you need control beyond what your remote can handle when programmed for Windows Media Center. I've found that setting it up to control WMC also allows it to control just about every other app on my PC, including XBMC and VLC Media Player.
