I am getting a terrible hissing sound only on DolbyHD tracks, not just a fe movies on all DolbyHD tracks, however DTS-Matser Audio is fine. When I change the audio to AC3 5.1 there is no problem. I am running the decoding via my receiver (RS20i) and have the audio set to "WASAPI" in XBMC. I checked to see if it was my reciever, but when I play through a bluray player DolbyHD plays fine.

So it is definitely XBMC. So does anyone know how to fix this?

OK, figured it out for anybody who has this problem in the future.

Make sure in the audio settings that,
AC3 is unchecked
DTS capable receiver unchecked
No DTS
Dolby is unchecked
DolbyHD is unchecked
Merridian is unchecked

I found this quite confusing, you would have thought checking those would allow High Def audio, but I guess this messes with bit-streaming???

I you want your receiver to handle HD audio then you have to tell xbmc that it is capable otherwise xbmc will do the decoding, by not checking the boxes you are asking xbmc to do the decoding. I think you have an issue elsewhere that is causing the hissing when your receiver does the decoding.

David

If I do that then I get hissing.

If I check DolbyHD ok and DTS-Master as ok then I get hissing on Dolby tracks and DTS-Master HD tracks. I am using pass through, so should that not over ride everything else? My reciever plays DolbyHD and DTS=Master fine, so it has to be something within XBMC.

Since I have the settings as "WASAPI-RS20i" as the audio device.

If you are using WASAPI with XBMC you need to ensure that the "Exclusive mode " options in your windows audio driver advanced settings are both ticked.

Sounds -> Playback -> Audio Device -> Properties -> Advanced

Hey David,

I did all that and followed the trouble shooting guide with no luck. Me and machines just don't mix. Funny thing is , I can write code in Java/VBA/VB, but I can not setup a PC to save my life.
