As a thank you to the community that has made my guides possible I am now to the point where I can host them for free. This was made possible by all the subscribers that supported the guides over the past many months. I am now at a point where I hope the advertising dollars I can generate will pay for the guides each month and allow them to continue for the foreseeable future.

The guides were made and improved with the help of AVS and I thank everyone for their participation.

Again, thanks to all the supporters who have made this possible.

As, I have always said --- enjoy the (free) guides!

Thank you very much for all your efforts. Lots of great things have come out of this community, and your blogs is definitely up there.

note: the post above is my opinion. as such, when reading any recommendations from me, please do you research and seek out other recommendations and make up your own mind on your next course of action. i mean, most reasonable adults should know that, but it seems this should be stated anyways.

Many thanks from me as well, as I was a subscriber to the HTPC guides which got me started heavily into the world of HTPC, and now have gotten my siblings into also. smile.gif

The server guides will be a great asset for me as I am testing different server OS's to see which one I want to employ full-time as my main server.

Was it my recent $$ that tip the scales?!

Kiddig of course. Your guides have already proved worthwhile, and I assume I will certainly find a lot more use in the very near future, so thank you.

That's what I call a classy move. Kudos, Assassin. smile.gif

Hey mods. This thread should be a sticky so people will know where to get the best free info on HTPCs and servers. biggrin.gif

One quick question...

If you decide to go back to paid guides will my account still be active?

I have already built 2 HTPC's using them but I refer back often for new tips & tricks.

Of course.

No plans to make them paid guides ever again though. I sincerely appreciate all the support and want to give back to the community.

I'm glad to hear this news, though as someone who just paid the subscription last month, it's a small bit bittersweet wink.gif

Thank you very much. I read the WHS guide yeaterday and it answered all the niggling questions I had, and many that hadn't occurred to me yet. I purchased WHS2011 on Friday before seeing this thread.

Thanks Assassin! I've gotten a lot of help from your guides over the last year or two, and it's great to see you going 'open source' with them. Keep up the good work! smile.gif I hope you'll still make it possible for folks to donate to the cause, if they so desire?

I have been looking to put an HTPC together for streaming and just ran into this thread. I was worried about missing something. I look forward to digging through it!

Woohooo!

This is great!!!! Even though I've been a long time subscriber to the guides and tried to promote when I can, the HTPC world will benefit greatly from this!

For anyone that hasn't checked them out. They are critical and should be a permanent bookmark on your browser!

Thanks Assassin!

I know you said you only had one issue running MSE on a server. Would it have been an update, that can't run? I have an "important update" that cannot run. Error code shows as incompatible with the O/S ...
Is there some kind of workaround?

Thank you so much for putting these guides together!! All of your hard work is much appreciated! Any thoughts about doing a guide based on FreeNas? I'm looking into building a FreeNas box right now

So after going thru these guides I have a question about a weird anomaly. I have both Media Browser and Media Center Master running as my metadata downloaders. Lately I've noticed when scrolling thru my list of movies, as the mouse pointer goes over the cover art, the cover art image will switch to a different image of the movie or the cover art image will disappear but its reflection is still there.

Here's an example. Check out the Looper cover art. It starts out with an image of them pointing guns at each other and they are above or below one another.

Now when i move the mouse and scroll on top of the Looper image, it changes to no guns and they are mirrored on top of each other. And if you look closely at the reflection underneath the cover art, you can see its the image of the original cover art, not the new one displayed.

Not all of my movies do this. It appears random on which ones change. In the movie folder, it only has 1 image labeled as "folder" and it's the new image.

Any thoughts? Do I need to set one of the metadata refresh rates to off?

Wow, most impressed. I was going to remake one or two of my HTPCs, but this good will gesture on your part means a lot; I will look at buying one of your premade systems now.

As planned the guides have now been turned over to our team for continued growth. Keep an eye out for a lot of new things (more than just guides) which will soon be available at the site.

Thanks again for the support. Please click on an ad every once in a while to keep the site free for everyone.
