The difference (that determines SQ) is components. smile.gif

Can you find Auzentech / Xonar hdav1.3 deluxe cards? They have been discontinued (produced when there was no graphic card supporting HD audio bitstreaming over HDMI).

CLARO halo XT or Xonar Essence ST with H6 is a solid choice right now.

Maybe your really best option is AV processor or this device: http://www.exasound.com/e18DAC/Overview.aspx

Do the differences can only from the components (soundcards vs audio interfaces)?
I think the audio interfaces dont decode Dolby or Dts... Do they?
Lot of pro people say that audio interfaces are the best way to go but i dont understand how the decodification/reproduction software works.

Audio interface is just an external analog sound card (usually connected to PC by USB), functionally there is no difference between analog sound card and audio interface. Some people believe an external one is better in sound quality because it shuts out PC noises.

For video playback, the player decodes compressed audio (and video of course), e.g. DTS, DTS-HD Master Audio, into multichannel LPCM, that is sent to the sound card and converted to analog, amplified.

Audio interfaces like exasound (thanks Qaq), Lynx, Gigaport do not have a typical audio drivers with a control panel and hardware options to decode... so i dont understand how i can to assign a single audio channels to single audio preouts? (for example left channel to first preout, right channel to second preout, sub to fifth etc).
Would be MPC able to do this function? or would i need another program?
Will audio interfaces work with normal software (windows, games, webplayers...)?

I would like to build a 5.2 system, will i listen any difference between a normal SoundCard (Xonar Essence ST + H6) and an audio interface (for example Lynx two B)?

Thanks !

One difference between these cards (and external adapters) is the ability to output a balanced signal, which has benefits over long distances (provided one uses truly balanced amplifiers, with XLR connectors, etc.). The Lynx does it, I'm not sure the consumer grade versions (Xonar, etc) do
