I have old hardware listed below that I would like to use as a HTPC but I don't believe my motherboard is up to snuff. I don't have an AVR, so I'm looking to stream audio and video via HDMI however this motherboard does not include HDMI. Does anyone know of an AM2 socket motherboard that along with my CPU will support HDMI video and audio streaming to my TV? Also, is there an affordable slim case that would work well? My AMD X4 Phenom CPU motherboard has an HDMI port but I'm going to be using that as my media server. Thanks.

Current Hardware:
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+
Mobo: Asus M2R32-MVP
RAM: 4GB DDR2
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 8500GT

You can swap in another video card with HDMI.

Stupid question. I have an extra graphics card that includes a DVI connection. If I buy an DVI to HDMI adapter, will I get audio through that connection when using my motherboard?

No audio over DVI. A new card can be had for about $20. BTW my previous HTPC was a lot worse than yours and still worked fine.

Can you provide any recommendations? I have an extra ATI card but I'll have to wait until I get home to see what model it is.

After doing additional research it looks like the mobo is ATX so I'd need to go with a bigger case. I was interested in the Silverstone ML03B but that is for MicroATX.

Looks like the AMD 6450 HD I had in mind is running about $40 at the moment. But they often go on sale. Got mine for $15 several months ago. They may be cheap on ebay too. The work perfectly for 1080p video and audio.
