I have been trying to make my own thumbnails with no luck. I am reading these guides here,
http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Frodo_FAQ#Local_images
http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Thumbnails

But, I still can't get any of them to work??? How exactly do you name a thumbnail/Poster etc. And where are you supposed to file these images?

Cheers

You didn't say what you're trying to use them for (videos/mp3..etc) but

make sure every movie is in its own folder for ease of use later!

create a folder for the movie with the movie name, and in that folder place your movie file and your images.
--moviename
---moviename.ext
---folder.jpg
---fanart.jpg

I am trying to make covers for all the kids Japanese movies that are not in the movie databases in America. At present, they are not coming up in the library.

I have an individual folder for each movie which are all MKV's at present.

I hope that helps?

Look in the folders of movies that have working art to get an idea of what to do.

There is no files in the folders that other than the .MKV file. So I assume that the scrapper is getting the cover art for me. But, with these other movies the scrapper does not pick anything up, hence the reason why I am trying to make my own.

You should be able to right click on the movie and select "movie info" and change the cover from there, you just need to browse and pick what you want locally.

Hey Bill, are you talking about when you are inside XBMC? B/c if you are, it does not come up in the library, so there is no way to right click on it.

It comes up in the Files section but there isn't anyway to change it, I just had one I had an issue with. The other option would be to create an NFO for it and use that, you can do that with ThumbGen. Then just put the NFO and thumbnail in each movies respective folder .

Forgive my dullness, but what is a NFO?

You can use Ember to create and name the files correctly. Including the .nfo. http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Ember_Media_Manager

I use Ember to create all possible variations of the files since I like to play around with different media players. This way the metadata and images are compatible with pretty much everything.

Thanks for that.

Now how do you install Ember (Windows 8)? I uncompressed the .rar file and ran the ffmpeg application and it does not install??? Any ideas?

http://www.howtogeek.com/61976/how-to-use-ember-media-manager-to-whip-your-media-collection-into-shape/

It creates all the image files and info files right in each movie/tv show directory. You can make edits right in the Ember application if the scraped data isn't pulled correctly.

What do you do when there is no data on a movie? The scraper is working fine for me and has scraped all the movies in English, but the Japanese ones are not in any database. How do I tell Ember to make files from jpeg's of my making?

You can double click on any object to open the edit window. Then click on a tab like "Poster" and you can use the top button on the right to pick an image locally from your computer (Local Browse) or the one on the bottom to enter a URL (Download) from Google Images or something.
