I am building a new HTPC (my first) and also putting together a first PC for my 77 & 82 year-young parents in order to email pictures of new granddaughter! My son is taking my current "XP Pro" Athlon machine to college.
I want to use XP Pro on both new computers (so that I may maintain only one system type for parents, son, and me).
Pricewatch has good prices ($108 including shipping) for "Sticker License" versions of XP Pro that does not include the CD but does have the sticker and a valid key code and registration number to register with Microsoft.
What is the difference between a "key code" and a "registration number"? Thought they were the same.
I seek to be legal and am confused on how this "sticker version" works in practice.
Do I use the XP Pro CD that is the system on my sons college computer to load the other two new systems?
If this version XP Pro CD is used, do I list its registration number in the XP setup program when loading the system on a new hard drive? Or do I use the new "sticker version" registration number since each of the two "sticker XP Pro" versions will have unique key codes/registration numbers?
Are there any other issues with using this type of software? Upgrade-ability, etc?
