I hate the whole win8 tiles/icons crap...
this a purpose but computer to do one thing, and one thing only...
so what I want is for the PC to boot up and start my cqc interface viewer automatically...
so, I have the IV shortcut is in C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
and it starts up just fine... if I alt-tab I can go to it...
but I don't want to alt-tab... I just want my IV to be the only thing I ever see on that PC...
why wont those stupid tile crap just go away?

I have no idea what cqc is, but Win 8.1 or 8.0 with a start menu replacement can launch directly to desktop, then your startup folder programs should work. The Run key in the registry should also work. With StartIsBack, I never have to look at the Fisher Price page again.

StartIsBack is your answer. I love Windows 8/8.1. Only because I kill Metro with StartIsBack.

Just don't try it on your HTPC if you use WMC. 8.1 breaks most WMC add-ons and severely limits your extender options. New eye candy and minor performance gains is not worth breaking WMC.

fwiw CQC is Charmed Quark Controller Home Automation / Theater Automation software

I got bored one day, and I accidentally ordered a Planar System Inc Helium 997-6848-00 27-Inch Screen LED-Lit Monitor just for fun...
needed something to run it, so I loaded up win8.1 on my My Somewhat Well Thought Out(TM) Mini-ITX Build
and so far, this is what I have come up with...

I know it doesn't look like much... but that is due entirely to my lack of artistic skill, and that fact that I have no clue what I am doing, or even why I am doing it.... well other than it seemed like a good idea at the time...
and you just cant go wrong with things that seemed like a good idea at the time...
