@emcdade, you mentioned earlier about my case being too stuffy. I am not noticing any increase in heat going from the GT 430 to the HD 7850 so I'm good with it.

Nice! Too bad they didn't go with DDR5 memory though.

Will this card - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127726 work with this MB(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157199)?

I was thinking of this card to replace my current http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150567.

So the card is too tall for my case. I have this case - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811204030

Card is 4.61" according to website.

Case says 5.4"....

I would have to remeasure but guessing 1/2" too tall.

Is there another comparable card that might fit in this case?

Double slot? Or would hit the side of the case ???

Not quite as good as the 7850 for $105 AR a few weeks ago. My rebate is already approved and its way!

Apparently it just dropped to $90 AR.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150642

I am on chat with newegg as I type this to see what can be done about that..

Well 7870 > 7850 it's nearly twice as powerful. Perhaps more than enough for HTPC only, but I game too biggrin.gif

I have a 6870 X2 XFX double slot card now that seems to work fine (for MadVR too) so IDK ??? I might hold off for a 79xx card Or the newer version.

I am still looking for something to replace my current card with - XFX HD-645X-ZQH2 Radeon HD 6450 1GB 64-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card but it looks like it can't be much taller than 4".

Also what is Newegg policy on returning open/tested items - do you get al lmoney back or only partial?

Also if the card says - Power Connector
2 x 6 Pin

Does it require two connectors for power? How do you verify what power is required for the Video card?

Those are the replacement cards for the old HD series. The new versions are the "R" series. Yup those would work.

The R7 260X with 2GB would be a good choice, it's the replacement for the HD 7790

Has anyone seen any testing on how the R series work with MadVR? I think I'd rather get the latest gen is pricing is comparable. I'd be looking to do level 5 at 1080P as a goal.

Assuming you get the equal to an HD series I would not expect it to perform any different. Something that is 7790 level or higher should be fine.

The name change is just a rebadge. There is little reason (none actually) to think it would not work as good as the older HD series it replaces.

Thanks. You know where a guy could find a cross reference chart? And I don't think it's a rebadge based on Newegg spec sheets. The # of stream processors and memory clocks look different. Does this affect performance or maybe allow to step down to a lower end card to get same MadVR capabilities? I don't know.

the Radeon R7 260X isn't based on any new silicon. It has quite a few things in common with the Radeon HD 7790 launched just this March, but differs from the HD 7790 by running higher clock speeds and double the standard memory amount
