Thought it would be interesting to have a thread purely for everyone to post what OS and software they use on their HTPC

I use Windows 7 and my primary software is Media portal. I use Powerdvd for 3D movies, i have vlc installed as well and i use firefox for internet but other than avast and teamviewer and freefilesync for automated backups, i really try and keep my HTPC as clean as possible, it boots up mega fast.

Run Win XP SP3 with 2 monitors, 24 inch LCD and 65 inch DLP 7 feet away with 1:1 pixel mapping.
Zoomplayer for most playback and TMT 5 for the rare disk playback.

Can't wait for Steam OS to come out, I'm going to try a dual-boot w/ Win 7.

I want to beef up the processor and GPU in my file server, then take advantage of In-Home streaming at my weaker HTPC's around the house for gaming. Why isn't Windows working on something that allows this right this second???

Or are they? It's a great idea.

Feeling cheap here for posting this but:
raspberry pi running raspbmc
Storage: a synology ds 211j, currently 4tb raid 1
Wired network
Still got a cheap blu ray player for BD playback for stuff I haven't ripped.
Works like a treat with 1080p and DTS no problem.

<--- Windows 7 X64 PRO + MEDIABROWSER 3 / MEDIABROWSER 3 THEATER(alpha testing) / PLEX ( <-not so much plex anymore)

I have XBMC installed but rarely touch it. Same for Jriver. XBMC is rather clunky and dated to me, Jriver lacks the eye candy and slickness too- (but it's awesome for audio )

I like Shark007 Codec pack for WMC/ MB3 Classic

I use MB theater with MadVR advanced video rendering with the internal player.

Prior to MB Theater I was using MPC-HC with MadVR as external player. (sticky at top forum for set up)

My server is 35TB running WHS2011 + Flexraid F with both pooling and parity, but I was just offered transparent T-raid by Brahim (flexraid developer) so I might try it out. Still deciding.

I also have powerDVD 13 integrated but almost never use it because playing from a disc is for noobs. tongue.gif

I know of nothing on windows that will process the game on one pc and stream it out to a client PC with full keyboard/mouse/game pad support. Do you?

Oh I thought you meant streaming movies and media. Gaming is different. Yeah. I got ya... but isn't there a delay for serious gaming ? I mean people kill for a couple more FPS...

I guess we'll have to wait and see what the input lag is like. Hopefully not bad over wired home Ethernet. Heck, Onlive was trying to sell this idea over broadband.

W8 on HTPC, autostarts with PlexHomeTheater or Steam Big Picture. Waiting for Steam OS like others.

Servers run WS2012 R2.

One server running Windows Home Server 2011 (64 bit) with one Ceton Infinitv 4 installed (network tuners). Two HTPC's running Windows 7 home premium. One workstation (PC) running Windows 7 Professional (64 bit). Two other machines for the other family members, both running Windows 7 Home Premium. The HTPC's automatically open up into Windows Media Center.

9 Tb in the server (8 Tb RAID 5 array and a couple of 500 Gb removable disks for backups), a Tb each in the HTPC's. Server and HTPC's are cabled on Cat5e (GbE). All other machines are wireless.

Was running Window 7 64Bit with Power DVD Ultra V10.
Upgraded to Windows 8.1 64Bit with PowerDVD Ultra V13 just this pasT weekend.
Still working out the kinks, but she is stable with no problems.
FusionHDTV 7 Dual Express working fine with new beta drivers.
Pass-through for DD5.1/DTS through HDTV working fine.
I am considering upgrade to Emotiva UMC-200 or Outlaw 975 (just can't make up my mind)
