I use my URC WR7 universal remote control to manage receiver, lcd, dvr, xbox, etc.. But I also want to use it to control my HTPC. As far as I understand, my HTPC needs a IR receiver, am I right? Those IR receivers that comes with cheap remote controls for PC would work with my control ? Or what exactly do I need?

You need an IR receiver. The HP Media Center IR Receiver is most recommended. If your remote doesn't have the MCE codes included then you can use Eventghost to map the commands to any IR input you wish.

If I can't get the HP IR, any other would work?

The HP receiver is $15 shipped. The Xbox USB receiver uses a proprietary RF, not IR.

You can get a different IR receiver, but it may or may not support the MCE codeset. Some IR receiver use a custom IR codeset and not the MCE standard "eHome" device.

Depends on how cheap. The $6-$7 ones use a crazy, practically unlearnable protocol and are missing some important WMC commands, so avoid those. The $12-$25 ones work fine. They're either MCE or Ortek protocol, both of which work very well. The HP already mentioned is great, but if your URC doesn't have codes already, then you have no remote to learn them from, so that's a risk. Those work best for remotes known to have a full set of MCE codes built in. Post a link and we can probably tell you if it's any good.
