I am naming my TV series like this, as per XBMC Wiki.
Dexter season 8 episode 1 is named below.
Dexter.s08e01.mkv

But Ember is not registering them correctly. Anyone know how to name files for TV series?

Step #1: download and install media center master.

Step #2. Do step #1 before anything else.

That's its. biggrin.gif

Seriously, Try this:

After you install MCM first get the folder structure right. Make sure you have first a "dexter" folder that inside it has everything dexter. That means you will have additional folders inside it called "season 1". "Season 2" etc....

You must have all your season 1 episodes inside a folder called season 1. That season 1 folder is inside your main dexter folder.

MCM should take care if the rest. I'm a big fan of the paid version, as it will auto rename everything properly. As long as your structure is right and it can read the "s01e01" in the name it will download all the metadata and art and rename everything properly.

You will need to play with the settings of MCM. Put it on XBMC mode (I use media browser) if that's your choice. Also choose TV mode if you are doing episodes and not movies.

Good luck

I'm on my cell phone but just google media center master.

The trial is unlocked for 30 days so you can try before it removes the paid features. Just give it a shot. Assassins guides have the link and walk you through the basics.

If you get stuck just ask here I'll help if I can

You ever finish that desk case PC ? The RAID 0 project ? I want to see pics !

OK, I have MCM and it fails to get the files. So I still have a problem with the naming of them.

Again this is how I am naming them,

Dexter.s08e01.mkv

Any help would be much appreciated.

Dave

I don't see how it fails to get the files for "dexter" ?? It worked perfect on mine. One it's done just click "rename all files ".

OK you downloaded and installed mediacenterMaster right ?

And you pointed it to the directory that contains your media ? And you set MCM on "tv mode" ? And it shows Dexter folder in the library right ? And inside your Dexter folder you have all your episodes inside folders names "season 1" and so on ... for all seasons ??

If you right click dexter in MCM and choose to fetch meta data it should fetch all the metadata for you. When it is done you can choose "rename all" and it should rename everything- including each name of each episode.

It really looks for the Mediabrowser naming convention (Example: Dexter --> Season 1 folder > Dexter.S01E01, Dexter S01E02, Dexter S01E03.... etc )

If that is not right it won't work as well. XBMC seems more forgiving if you are not organized with Season folders.

One of the things that can make life a lot easier in this regard is to use Sickbeard to manage your TV Shows. It will organize and rename your files and is also customizable if you so desire. Of course its real purpose is to download the shows you want from whatever Usenet server you use. But for the naming and organization you don't have to use that part.

Simply add the show in question, set the naming settings the way you want. Then copy or move the episodes you have into the newly created folder and then tell sick beard to rescan the files. It should then report back the recognized files, they just have to have the Season# and ep number in them, and then you can rename the episodes. When you do the renaming it will create Season folders etc if you have setup the naming and org settings that way.

It will even download nfo files for the who and episodes and will download artwork for XBMC.
