I'm currently running Windows 8 on my HTPC, which I don't mind because I've got it booting to desktop without problems. But when I rebooted the other day, a super annoying popup came up telling me about 8.1. The only way to get rid of it was to click on the link to the Windows Store and then exit out of the store back to the desktop. If this keeps happening I'll like be forced to upgrade, but before I do I want to make sure there won't be any major problems.

Can anyone post their experiences with 8.1? Specifically whether they've run into problems with 1) WMC plugins like Recorded TV HD or DTB Addin, 2) SiliconDust HD Homerun, or 3) anything else I'm not thinking of?

Thanks!

I upgraded my HTPC from 8 to 8.1. I think I had to get a newer Ceton driver.

turn off windows updates and you wont get that notification as that is what it is, I am gona wait for all bugs to be gone before I upgrade.

you can press the windows button on the keyboard to return to the desktop though when that notification appears.

Win 8.1 is pretty much the bug fix. Think of it as Win 8 Service Pack 1.

at this time I don't have any 'Bug' issues that need fixing, and with my many years of ms's ser paks, updates. new os release I prefer to let some else find and fix all the early release bugs, that makes them feel superior, my updates will remain manual.

I went ahead and upgraded. So far no problems with software. Only thing seems to be that the volume seems lower, but that just may be my imagination.
