so i built a htpc with windows 7 and a invititv pci 6 tuner. i have the cablecard installed and paired fine and most channels show a signal of about 1 to -1 db. The ceton diagnostics say the channels tune fine and have the correct entitlement, but when i go into wmc, it always says no signal was found or that the signal is too weak. however, when i go into the tuner diagnostics within wmc, the signal is plenty strong enough. i know the cablecard is good and the signal ok as they worked fine in the tivo earlier. ceton keeps having me send them diagnostics, but i'm at a loss of what could be wrong. would windows 8 amd wmc be any better?

Not likely that Win8 would be better than Win7.

Who is your cable company?
Is there tuning adapter, moca, cable modem, or cable box in the mix?
After taking the cable card out of the Tivo and putting it into the ceton tuner, you called your cable company and they sent the authorization?
Does WMC recognize all 6 tuners?
If you set up a recording- does it happen? will it play back when finished?

Cable Company is Time Warner.
No tuning adapter as the area doesn't have switched video.
There is a cable modem involved.
The wire comes in, has one HD Splitter on it and runs to the Cable Modem and the PC with the InifiniTV in it. The signal strength on almost every channel is somewhere in the +1 to -1 range.
The cable card was originally authorized for the Ceton.
When the problem was unresolved by TWC, i moved the card into the TiVo and had them reauthorize it for it. Everything in the the TiVo worked fine. No artifacting or boxing.
I moved the card back to the Ceton and had them reauthorize again.
I see the V flag in the conditional screen for the cable card, so that's ok.
WMC sees all 6 tuners.
I even removed WMC and reinstalled it. Had to "repair" the Ceton drivers for WMC to see all 6 tuners after that.

If i do a recording, it fails. Says no signal can be found. For a little bit, i was able to record only "local" HD channels off the TV, but pulling and reseating the cable card stopped any recording. The recordings I had from that period played back fine.

Think i should return the tuner and maybe get the ETH version? I have a spare port in the switch the HTPC is plugged into. I'm at my wits end on this. Ceton has been helpful, but they keep asking for diagnostics and i know i won't hear from them again until Saturday at the earliest.

Yeah. It's really frustrating. I hate to return everything as that was the whole reason for buying the components. If microsoft isn't going to be supporting wmc much going forward, maybe I'm better off paying the damn 30.00 per month for a dvr from twc.
