I'm moving soon and my cable company said they no longer offer analog plans (though apparently the digital plan still includes analog signal) so I want to look into doing whatever is needed for my PC to get and record HDTV as I currently do with the analog signal and my analog TV tuner card.

What current hardware an software allows you to get the signal from those HD cable boxes as well as can control the cable box so it can automatically switch to the channels to record? I currently have a Hauppagge tuner card and Beyond TV to do this with analog cable.

Also, it often happens that 2 shows record at once (something my current tuner card supports), does digital cable have enough reruns to allow software to resolve conflicts like Beyond TV does or would I need 2 cable boxes and 2 [whatever is needed to get the signal in to the PC]?

Thanks

From a quick search I see Hauppagge now has the "Colossus" card which can record HD from a cable box as well as control it's channels. Is this a good choice and what software is it compatible with to record TV automatically?

Thanks

A Cablecard tuner will be your best bet.

What is a CableCard tuner? I'm in Quebec, Canada where I think the TV signals may be different so I'm not sure that's an option for me, does anyone know?

I am not sure if any Canadian cable companies use cablecards. You can search "ceton" here for info on cable cards.

It doesn't seem like I can use CableCards here, with that in mind what's the best setup to record digital TV on my PC?

So far the only internal HD recording device I found is the Hauppauge Colossus, is it a good choice or are there other better ideally internal alternatives?

Thank you
