Confirmed - Hauppauge Now Only Shipping NEW 2255 Dual Tuner Card (No 2250's Remain)

I've had a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250 model 1229 Dual Tuner Card on backorder with ShopBLT.com since early June, currently estimated to be shipped August 12. I confirmed through ShopBLT that Hauppauge is now ONLY shipping the new WinTV-HVR-2255 card and has NO older 2250 cards remaining. Therefore, if you wish to lock in your place on the waiting list for a new 2255 card, it should be safe to backorder your new 2255 from vendors at this time even though they still list the item as "WinTV-HVR-2250".

I have a 2250 that hasn't been used in nearly 3 years now since I went with the SiliconDust HDRH Prime.

The Hauppauge 2250/2255 receives both OTA (antenna TV) and clear QAM cable TV. If you want to watch and record analog or HDTV with an antenna, forget the SiliconDust HDHomeRun PRIME box!!!

SiliconDust HDHomeRun PRIME - Three Digital Tuners, Anywhere on Your Network HDHR3-CC Ethernet interface

"HDHomeRun PRIME is designed for use with digital cable. It will not work with analog channels, an antenna, satellite, or IPTV services.
HDHomeRun PRIME is designed for use with US digital cable utilizing CableCARD technology. It is not compatible with cable systems that do not use CableCARD, including most in Canada and all in Europe."

You're mixing apples and oranges. The 2250/2255 can only record digital OTA and clear QAM. The HDHR Prime is for encrypted digital cable and uses a cablecard. Both tuners are for entirely different uses. If you only want OTA or clear QAM, then go with the 2250/2255. If you want digital cable you need the HDHR Prime or any of the Ceton models.

Uh-oh, I just ordered a 2250 from NewEgg. Should I return and buy a 2255 instead. What do you think?

Hauppauge is only supplying the 2255, and, like with ShopBLT.com, NewEgg is likely to be receiving 2255 cards instead of the 2250 cards from Hauppauge. You can always contact NewEgg to confirm this.

For the improved tuner sensitivity, you definitely want the 2255. If Newegg still has the old 1213 Media Center version in stock with the 2250 card, I'd cancel or return the order. They appear to have the 1229 version on backorder, so that should be okay to order as only 2255 boards will be shipping.

ShopBLT.com received enough Model 1213's today to clear out and ship its backlog of orders but still has 1 left in stock with 200 on backorder. However, the Model 1229's are still all on backorder with none shipped as yet. (ETA 8-12-14)

This means that Newegg likely also received and is shipping new 2255 versions of the Model 1213.

I got notice Wednesday, 8/6/14 that ShopBLT.com is now shipping my backordered Hauppauge 2255 Model 1229 from the first small batch of 10 new 1229's they received. They still have over 300 more on backorder they should be receiving within a week or two. The fastest way to get yours is to submit your order now to a vendor to fix your place on the backorder waiting list.

By the way, if you have WinTV v7 software on your computer for other Hauppauge tuners, you can download the latest Version 3.7 software that supports the new 2255 and other new tuners from the WinTV v7/v7.2 support site:

I'm wanting another tuner or two but I'm having a hard time paying over $100 for a dual tuner when I was buying the single tuner 1800 for like $15 for a while. I should have bought a few more while they were available.

Hmmm. I was thinking about going HD homerun Plus for networking my OTA to multiple HTPCs. I wonder how the HD homerun Plus' tuner compares to this new tuner. I usually am loosing PBS and ABC in the summer to some inversions.

Theater set-up:

AVR:  Pioneer VSX-820

Speakers:  5.1 consists of four NHT Classic Two bookshelf and an NHT TwoC center

Sub:  PSA-XV15

HTPC - ridiculously over-the-top, home-built gaming PC that I tinker with daily!

OTA antenna:  Winegard HD7698P

HDTV:  Sharp LC-60SQ15U

Yup, got the 2255 from Newegg. For those who are interested, here is the thermal signature of the 2255, am using it in a fan-less box.

When are they going to be released? I've checked amazon and newegg and it's never listed.

The 2255 is available everywhere, but still listed as 2250. Just order it from anyone at the cheapest price. If you live in an area of strong reception it'll work okay, but the old Hauppauge WinTV-Aero-m USB tuner is significantly more sensitive and a must if you live in a fringe reception area.

I just got my second Aero-m tuner after returning my less than sensitive 2255 only to find a bug in WinTV v7 software that won't recognize a second Aero-m tuner. WinTV v7 recognized and ran both 2255 tuners plus my old Aero-m tuner at the same time without any problem. I've submitted a trouble report to Hauppauge tech support, and they had BETTER fix it ASAP!!!
