Black screen when trying to watch 3D movies

Hi everyone,

I recently upgraded my Radeon HD 7850 to a Radeon R9 280x. When I had the 7850 watching 3D movies was no problem. Now with the 280x I get a black screen after about a minute when I change my beamer (BenQ W1070) settings to 3D Side-by-side. Nothing responds anymore so I have to manually reset my pc. I have tried different cables, the latest drivers, nothing works. I also have the latest firmware on my beamer (1.08) which supports Side-by-side in 60hz mode. The specs of my PC are:

Motherboard: Asus B75 Pro3
Processor: i5-2400 @ 3.10Ghz
GPU: Radeon R9 280x
Memory: 8 GB RAM
OS Windows 7 - 64 bit
PSU: 630 Watt

Can someone please help me?

Greetings.

Does this happen *only* after you switch to 3D SbS? What about FullHD 3D (frame-packed)? Does it happen when you play a video, or in any other situation? If yes, with what player? Do you use any "enhancing" software (SVP, MadVR, etc.)?

Hi thanks for your reply. I checked and it also occured when I was in the frame-packed mode. However this time it took a solid 4/5 min before I got the black screen. When I am playing games or watching a movie on the beamer there is no problem. Just when I switch to a 3D mode. Nothing responds, I cannot even get the numlock light to lit up or capslock. I do not use any enhancing software what so ever. Just use VLC media player to watch my movies. Like I said, me previous graphics card had no problems what so ever.

VLC does not support frame-packed, so I am still not sure what you do. Still, it does not look like a hardware issue, like underpowering, as I initially thought. Sorry, no clue. Try updating VLC, turning hardware acceleratin on and off, using another player, etc.
