Last night one channel was giving me a weak signal error (only that particular channel had a problem). As I decided to try it again today I noticed my HTPC is putting my cable box on completely wrong channels, for example entering 608 puts the box on 209, entering 664 puts it on 808, entering 754 puts it on 144.
Please help me figure out what went wrong as I will obviously miss 100% of my TV shows until this is fixed. I've had this system for over 1.5 years and this has never happened before. I even restarted my PC, something I normally only do 3-5 times per year, and even that didn't solve it.
Please help me get this figured out ASAP as I have no "real" TV so I am unable to watch TV until this is fixed.
Edit: I just had an idea, I'm restarting the cable box itself, it takes forever to restart so I won't know if that fixes it for a while but it's worth a try.
The box is finally restarted and doing the same thing (the same channels go to the same wrong channel as before).
Let me test the remote for the cable box if I can find it as I never used it before...
I found the remote and the box respond properly to it, so it's like the PC is no longer set for the right cable box model or something, but I haven't set that in over 1.5 years and don't remember where you configure that.
To add to the confusion, I found the IRConfig or whatever it's called app and when it sends the test channel 123 the cable box goes on 123, could the problem be in WMC itself?
I went back through the setup tv signal in WMC but accidentally canceled something halfway, now the box goes to the right channel but I get a service unavailable for every channel.
I'll go back through setup making sure I don't accidentally cancel anything.
After going through Setup TV signal in WMC it went back to putting the box on the right channels but all channels said no service or something like that. I restarted again and everything works except I still have the weak signal issue on the same channel that gave me the error last night so it's likely a coincidence that both problems occurred one after the other.
I'll call the cable company about the weak signal on a channel, maybe a squirrel has been chewing the cable just enough to lose just that channel or a connection got loose somewhere.
I've seen this wrong channel problem on the HD-PVR - it's a driver issue. The usual fix is to redo the tv setup - zip code, provider, channels, etc. this will cure it until it breaks again.
However, I didn't see this in a long time when I updated both drivers (device and wmc) to latest version. I know I haven't seen it for 4-5 years now. One of the driver fixes cures it.
