I play more in the projector and DVD player forums, but a problem arose with my father's computer/htpc and perhaps someone here had a similar experience.
He has an older Dell with Win 98 and used WinDVD or PowerDVD to watch movies on his computer. For some reason, out of nowhere the software programs do not recognize his DVD-rom as a DVD drive. The software recognizes the drive is there, and windows also recognizes the drive as being there. WinDVD will even display the title of the movie in the drive. When I actually try to play the movie, however, it says the drive is an unsupported device.
I'm not aware of the DVD-rom itself needing any drivers, as it didn't need any before. What's especially puzzling is that this problem just started for no apparent reason.
Has this happened with anyone else here?
