Not simultaniously. At least with my Fusion card and the ATI 9600 Pro, the HD display is only shown on the primary display. You can easily switch between them (bring up the Display Properties dialog, go to the settings tab, click the advanced button, on the Radeon xxxx Series Properties dialog go to the displays tab, and toggle the primary display between the Monitor and FPD). Since my system (and monitor) are in my office and the projector is in the basement, this isn't a problem for me. I just carry my wireless keyboard & mouse to the basement, when the display comes up, right mouse on the screen and pick properties, set the projector to primary and go. When done, I carry the keyboard & mouse up to the office and toggle it back.

If you set the overlay mode to "theater," I believe you can.

I never noticed that before - I'll have to try it. Thanks.

Has anyone been able to install this card without reloading XP? If so, what is your configuration and what steps did you take?

Hate to say it, but I am returning this card to ATI. Though I solved the audio stutter problem with my herculean rebuild of my HTPC with full re-install of the OS, I am still getting unacceptable video jerking at random times while recording HDTV streams using this card. I am out of ideas on what else to fix, so I think this card is simply not ready for prime time. I am thinking I should just buy a My HD....

I just installed the HDTV Wonder with a clean install of Windows XP today. I'm watching the analog TV tuner right now, but the digital tuner will not work! It gives an error saying that the video card drivers are not installed. I have the latest nvidia (on the website) drivers 61.77 installed along with directx 9.0c.

I have had the HDTV Wonder for about a week now with the same results. The error I get is "Unable to start DTV". I have also reinstalled XP without any success. I went through the same thing with tech support and I believe I am at the highest level of support now. I am going to hang in there for a hot fix. I have tried this card with a GeForce DDR and GeForce4 MX both of which support the minimum requirements of DirectX 9. This makes 3 GeForce cards that don't work with the HDTV wonder... anyone else? I'm gonna try to borrow an ATI card now to confirm this, but it looks like the ATI HDTV Wonder may be incompatible (at this point) with nVidia GeForce cards...?

Can anyone out there disprove this hypothesis?

Yep. I was getting the "Unable to start DTV" error with a Ti 4200 (DX 8.1?)
After some trial and error, I installed the "ATI Decoder" which was on the HD Wonder CD... (\\install\\decoder\\) And now I can get HD on my system albeit some choppiness.

I don't know why I had to install this manually, but it works...

My Signals are about 75%
Rig is a XP2600+, 1Gig, Ti 4200 ...
I wonder if I upgrade the vid-card the choppiness will go away.
Thinking about a 6800 NU...

I just got an HDTV wonder and I installed it with an ATI 8500DV. Everything installed just fine and all of the programs except for the High Definition TV(DTV) worked. When you start the DTV and you don't have a ATI 9500 or above the picture shows up and then it freezes with green lines on it. When I rebooted it said that my machine had recovered from a serious error. It said that the computer could not render the overlay(or something like that). My understanding is that the overlays are part of Directx 9 and the HDTV wonder needs a card that can support that. Even though you have directx 9 installed it won't work. You need atleast a 9500 or above video card. Oh yea do not buy an all-in-wonder with the HDTV wonder. It will work but you don't need it. The HDTV wonder has all of the inputs that you need. (rca, s-video, cable coaxial, and OTA HD DTV). When you combine that with a regular ATI video card you can add all of the outputs you need(ATI 9600XT s-video out, rca out with optional adapter, component out with optional adapter, DVI out, and Vga out).
If anyone does get the DTV working with anything lower than a 9500 then let us know.

I will be sure to let you know. My HDTV Wonder is coming in today. I have a 9200SE in the pc that I'm going to try it in.

Has HDTVFanAtic done the side by side comparison with MyHD yet? He posted back in the spring (wait a minute, it's still Spring in Rochester) that he'd have that done by end of July. I'm anxiously awaiting the findings.

Maybe this is the answer to all of the problems? Apparently this is fixing most of the issues. I haven't tried it so maybe the 8500DV will work after all?

I got my HDTV Wonder yesterday and still have yet to get it to work right. I am having audio and video stuttering problems with HD content. I have an Asus A7N8X deluxe MB with a 2700XP, 1 GB ram, Radeon 9600, all of which should be plenty of horsepower. My signal strength is good, I'm getting between 85% to 90% signal strength (from antenna on roof) with the HDTV. I've reinstalled the OS and moved the card to different PCI slots, with no luck. I've read on here that it doesn't play well with some audio cards, maybe it doesn't like the onboard Nvidia sound?
It does give me an interesting warning when I run the DTV software; it tells me that I don't have DMA enabled on my hard drive. However, when I check the system settings, it says I am running Ultra DMA 133 mode, is this the same as enabling DMA? I will try the card in a different system tonight, but I'm ready to send it back. I WONDER if this card worked right out of the box for anybody??????

dantenatas,
I have an nForce2 mobo (Abit NF7-S) also and am experiencing the exact same issue. I am assuming future software updates will resolve the problem but I wish there was a immediate work around. My CPU is running at about 50-60% so I do not see this as the problem. Especially since I can run Zoom player w/ FFDShow (resize and NR) at 80-90% without any problems.
Too bad there is not a way to disable the PVR function and simply view "Live Only" without archiving. I also recieved the hard disk warning but as you said everything is optimized and running at full speed. I might play around with a Promise Controller and see if it makes any difference. Have you tried uninstalling the nForce IDE driver to use the standard driver? Maybe it is a problem with the drivers..

Report back any findings!

on rage3d.com there is a comparison for you -
ATI Performance / Price Chart

I say yes the 9800pro IS worth it, but I also have one. I also got mine at Best Buy (ATi 9800 Pro 128mb 256bit) for $179 on sale. That made it real easy to choose.

It's got dual dvi (and adapters) and s-video and composite out.
Added with the HDTV Wonder I have DigitalTV, AnalogTV, s-video and composite in. And I got a DVI- HDTV component out adapter seperately for $30. THINKING about adding a USB FM tuner too.

This setup would be better than the AIW 9600XT.

Well, you've stopped me in my tracks. I have the same system you do, except I have an AIW7500 installed and am about to buy (probably) a 9600XT to go with the HDTV AIW I have on order at buy.com. I ordered the HDTV AIW on 8/5 and they still haven't shipped it. This may be a good thing.

I eagerly await your findings. I certainly hope I don't have to reinstall the OS just to get the HDTV AIW to work. I've read elsewhere to remove winDVD first, any other suggestions will be most welcome.

When did you get the ATI 9800Pro 128MB version at Best Buy for $179? I just paid $250 for it but I want to test it first then I can just take it back and find it cheaper somewhere else. If that price was advertised anywhere then maybe I can get them to price match it.

I have had the card for a few days and the thing is going back!!!

1) Integration with the AIW cards is poor - I have an AIW 9800 Pro
2) No wake from hibernation
3) PVR like behavior exists but is poor - only tracks a couple of hours.
4) Hard to use
5) No TV Guide like data - manual settings only!

Stay away for now.

Personally I think the ATI HDTV WONDER is the best product I have seen.

Yes it has some issues but I expect they will be resolved soon.

1.) I don't think the integration is poor. I have a AIW 9700 PRO and the DTV look and feel is very MMC. Multi-view is not available for me, but other than that I have no idea what this guy is talking about.

2.) Not sure about hibernation. Seems this has always been a problem even with the TV apps.

3.) PVR works great here. The about of time to track is a user setup option. You can re-run the install Wizard and set how much disk space to use for this purpose. I have even recorded a few PBS-HD shows and put them on DVD already. No big deal and it works great!

4.) Easy to use for me. What was hard?

5.) Does anyone do TV-Guide for OTA? Not a big deal the guides are online. But for some it would be a nice feature.
What manual settings? You do scan the stations during install but if new stations are added in your area they just show up automatically. We are only talking locals here so not hard to know what channels are here. Yes everyone as a few extra PBS channels, so stations show 1080i and SD on sub-channels but the whole concept of . tells me right away what I am watching. If I was on 9.1 that is PBS-HD, 9.2 is PBS-KIDS, 9.3 is regular PBS. If I saw a 9.4 show up you know I would know right away it was PBS.

I read the post but there was no real reason given that made sense to me.

This is great news, I wish I had learned it would work with my nVidia GeForce 4 card yesterday. I already reformatted C: and ordered a 9600XT in anticipation of getting the Wonder. But I'm happy to get the 9600, have heard good things.

Great news Valkyrie-MT and Grogs, thanks, I needed it!
