I'll look into it more tonight.

I can post or e-mail you the text file of the errors it reports as corrected. The nVidia transport file input filter doesn't seem very robust. I suspect the problem is minor formatting. I can also provide you with a before and after file. I'll also try to see what error the nVidia filter is reporting.

Ok, I looked into it some more, and it seems the problem only exists for transport streams captured by my Fusion 5 cards, but not for my MyHD 100.

The log files created by MPEG2Repair are uninformative.

I guessing that the problem is probably do to the timestamp discontinuities caused by cutting the stream with H2.

Will the stream play back on the MyHD or Fusion card?

Will the stream play back with another decoder like NVidia(TheaterTek) or Elecard?

Not sure (haven't tried it yet), Yes

MPC can play it, as can windows media player, and TT.

Latest version of HDTVtoMPEG2 v1.11.76 is available here.

Main new feature is a totally re-written commercial scanner (HDTV support only).

Cris

NOTE: When updating to this version the relationship between the output formats and the file extensions will be messed up. Either update the .Ext extensions manually or just delete the .ini file and start over.

-----

.76 - Fix to scan code to handle pre-defined Include\\Exclude sections correctly during scanning
.75 - F5 refreshes the input file data if you are editing a TS file that is currently being recorded.
.74 - Files are now opened with FILE_SHARE_READ and FILE_SHARE_WRITE
.73 - Minor changes
.72 - Ability to disable .TRI file creation using the CreateTRIFiles=0 flag in the ini file
.72 - .TRI files not created until an Include, Exclude, button is pressed
.71 - Fixed major bug when Scan filters were being used
.70 - Jockeyed around the manual editing buttons
.70 - New Commercial Scan code (HDTV support only)
.56 - Changed default Channel to now be the first stream with a horizontal size >= 1280.
.55 - Default output file type is now transport stream instead of mpeg2. Last used setting is still saved in the .ini file.
.55 - File type list order is now Transport Stream, HiDTV, Mpeg2.
.54 - Default Channel is now the one with the lowest video PID number

Thanks Chris...

I have been wondering about this for a week or so now, is there a feature in H2 (or another tool) that would allow a 'zoom' of the picture when processing it.

I will give you an example of why i am wondering. I recorded the Sat. Night Live gone commercial a couple weeks ago. I was hoping to archive the program. It is 98% 4:3 ratio, and it came as pillarboxed 1080i from NBC. I used H2 to remove the commercials, and then used Nero Vision Express to burn it to DVD.

The thing is, when viewed on a normal 4:3 tv, it is postage stamped (letter & pillar boxed).

Do you (or anyone) know of a slick way of zooming in when processing?
thanks,

If you want to "change" the video you will have to re-encode the video with something like VirtualDubMod and Avisynth. Hardware players like the MyHD and Roku (using MPlay) allow you to Zoom 4x3 to fill the screen.

Don't want to be a complainer, but the commercial scan doesn't work on DHDT.

I assume the commercials on DHDT are 16x9?

What is "DHDT"? It only works on 16:9 HD programs with 4:3 commercials, if that's what you're talking about.

Oh...I didn't notice that they had commercials when it was unencrypted on my cable.

Anyway, if that is what he meant then, yes, it's all 16:9, as are InHD, ESPN-HD, etc. Although sometimes they have static side pillars that H2M might detect as "4:3" material. However, that is often actually program content in those cases.

Yes, it typically has a single 1 minute commercial about 22-25 minutes into the show and the shows end around 44-50 minutes into the hour.

Commercial scan works great and very quick...my NBC station has local ads with a 16x9 blue bars so the scan misses them but it takes me less time to fix that than it would to edit all commercials. Killer feature...

I love this new scan but I have a quick question...

I captured a three hour block with three one hour shows. I ran the scan and it picked up all the commercials with no problems. How do only select the first show and mark the last two shows "exclude" and if I want to do the middle show how do I exclude the first and last show...same for third...Is there a way to delete all the edit points before/after the selected point? If not I may have to do them manually.

@Nrmf,

Were the files already joined when you tried to scan them or were they two separate files (or multiple files) that you were going to scan and then join when you Processed them?

@MickeyDora,

Manually mark out two of the shows with Excludes then run the Scan. Process that show then repeat. You can also use the Delete key to quickly delete marker points. Each press will delete the prior marker point and "walk" backwards. Be careful as this last technique might require a little practice to get skilled at.

Looks like I've got a bug when trying to scan a file with Excludes on both ends. On a 1-hour show consisting of two files, if I Exclude sections on the front and back and try to process and Include section in the middle that crosses file boundaries, the scanner stops at the second file.

I like to split DVD vob files into my own definition of what a chapter is. Can I use HDTV2MPEG2 for this? I mean I loadup the vob and pick a start and end point (preferably frame accurate) and I like a vob file of the portion selected. Is this doable with this tool? Please forgive me if this is a naive question. I tried to get the answer from the thread but I could not.

BTW, I suppose I could do the above if it is a HD .ts file. Am I correct?

I've only tried the scan once on Desperate Housewives. It got close on most commercials, and missed one entirely. It was one entire file.

The speed of the scan was awesome though.

The editing tool works only on transport streams (.tp files), not MPEG-2 program streams (.mpg or .vob files).

OK...I think I figured it out.

I have a three hour transport stream that is 18GB (single file) and it has three shows on it (Surface, Las Vegas, Medium). What I did was to exclude everything from the very first frame. Then moved forward to the very first frame of the first show and marked it in. Then went to the last frame of the first show and marked it out. Hit scan and all worked out fine.

I repeated the process with the second and third show and it worked flawlessly. Thanks again. This feature sure saves lots of time.
