I've re-united the readme and attempted to update the change log. This version includes the fixes in 1.10b and adds additional fixes by Cris Moore.
I can continue to host HDTVtoMPEG2 here for the time being, so if there isn't a more appropriate person or place to host it, please send your bug fixes to me.
Some basic info about HDTVtoMPEG2:
HDTVtoMPEG2 is primarily an MPEG-2 transport stream editor. Editing is performed as a simple transport packet level cut & splice, which means the output has a transport stream discontinuity at the splice points. Different decoders handle discontinuities with different amounts of grace. You may experience audio and/or video break-ups at the discontinuities. If you need editing with no discontinuities in the output, check out VideoReDo.
HDTVtoMPEG2 can break the output into multiple file segments. It can strip unwanted programs and PIDs from the input, and it regenerates tables. It can optionally preserve the transport stream bit rate (to keep a constant bit rate stream as such).
HDTVtoMPEG2 can scan for commercials by detecting black pillarbox bars.
I think the transport stream to program stream conversion was broken with newer versions of HDTVtoMPEG2. There are probably better programs to use for that. (X-Muxer or VideoReDo?)
No. The batch stuff started off a .87 build and will need to be merged into the latest version. I got a few hardcoded areas to fix before I do the merge, but then it should work well enough for you to try.
For the first time in a long while, I tried using HDTVtoMPEG2 to join parts of a TS TV show I had downloaded... and it wouldn't work. I eventually discovered the files are not your standard TS broadcast, but contains a very new (and well hidden) form of h264 that (as I understand it) is stuffed inside the normal video stream.
So obviously, the program can't make heads or tails of that... it doesn't list a channel, so there's no possibility of joining the parts from the TV show.
Do you plan on supporting this new format in the future? This would be awesone! It would make a lot of people I know very happy (PM for details on that... I can't elaborate on the thread).
and now that this has bumpped up..... batch mode?
How do I determine what the differences are between network streams? My conversion process works great on NBC shows, intermittenly on Fox, and fails a lot on CBS....
Use GSpot or AVIcodec on your video files and you'll see what the difference is between them.
Unfortunately, AVIcodec doesn't support MBAFF TS files either... but GSpot does. I had problems with an earlier version, but the latest one seems to be able to detect the h264 stream.
note: I thought I'd clear things up a bit... MBAFF broadcasting is not in use in North-America. I've only heard of it being used in Europe (SkyHD, BBC HD and so on). It's miles in front compared to your normal MPEG2 HD feed. The full MPEG2 bandwidth is (seems to be?) available for an h264 compressed video stream... so the quality is lightyears from conventional HD. Most programs are broadcast in 1080p and the bitrate is so damn high! Most PCs can't run this type of files smoothly... my HP xw8000 3.06Ghz Xeon with 2GB of RAM can barely display 15fps when I used hardware acceleration in PowerDVD! I need a new PC...
Also know that, unless there's another filter I don't know of, MBAAF can only be read using CoreAVC 1.1 for the moment.
i just upgraded my PC and lost the old HDTV2mpeg so i downloaded your newest one.
i tested a old .ts stream from the PBS demos that used to run years ago.
i am getting no video now when converting to mpeg2? the old programed used to work fine, i want to convert so i can stream the files to my PS3.i also did a .ts stream part from a Dead like me ep and it converted part of the first few sec and did the audio very chopy. both streams play in VLC and Zoomplay fine, any ideas whats wrong?

Sorry WoRkZ but no chance. My H2M days are coming to and end. After I finish up the Batch stuff I'm going to check the source into SourceForge and move on.
Sorry John I haven't worked on it in a number of weeks partly because my eyes have been bothering me. Un-official diagnosis looks like keratoconus. Great.

The older version tried to sync the audio with PES packets. Unfortunately this failed as many times as it worked often dropping either the video or audio or both so I removed it.
If the old version worked and you must convert to mpeg2 then you will have to continue to use the old version. If you know what version that was I can send you another copy. However, if you must convert to program streams you are probably better off buying yourself a copy of VideoRedo.
Sorry to hear that you aren't going to work on this anymore.
Anyways, I have many .ts files which I have used your program to combine files and remove comercials from. Thing is, I'd like to archive these files onto DVD. Course, it means that I need to convert them to a different format so that I can compress them further, since they are too big to fit on a DVD.
It seems like every time I try to do this (xvid, WMV, whatever), I always have problems with these files. While I can play them back perfectly well, there is always some problem with them that the encoder chokes on. It may be dropouts in the file. It may be just editing stuff in the program. Whatever it is, it prevents me from archiving my files.
I know this is probably a more general query, so you may want to respond privately, but what do I do about this? It is frustrating spending all of this time trying to get my library archived and nothing comes of it.

Most likely the discontinuities at the cut points is causing the problems with conversions. What I would try is to download the trial version of VideoRedo and run the stream through the "fix-up" tool. This should correct the discontinuities in the file and make them more palatable to the file converter. You could also use VideoRedo and convert it to a program stream if desired before conversion.
Thanks for the kind words about my developing eye problem. But just to be clear it's not like I'm going to go blind anytime soon. I only mentioned it because it has effected how often\\long I am willing to sit in front of a computer and hence has effect my eagerness to finish up the batch stuff for H2M. After I visit the specialist on Thursday he will probably prescribe RGP contact lenses which appears to be the "standard" fix for this problem. I've never worn contact lenses before so I hope THAT won't be a problem too.
Contacts can be a tough call, but if you don't have a problem running your finger along your pulled open eyelid to clean out eyelashes, etc;, you should not have much trouble.
Any chance the final version will include a name change so newbies will finally stop asking why HDTVtoMPEG2 doesn't actually do that? It was discussed a while back and candidates for replacement graphics were posted, but nothing came of it. I think the favorite at the time was TSEdit; anyway it gets my vote.

I'm new to the HDTV scene. I just got a HDTV tuner for my laptop (the OnAir GT). I record Heroes on Monday night and because of the formatting on my hard drive, it was split into three files. They played back perfectly. But when I try to use HTM, the outputted file is 0kb until the end or when I click cancel and it becomes 3kb. So obviously it's not sending anything out. I downloaded HTM yesterday so I assume it's the latest. The files are .ts files. The file split point is 3500MB. I've tried three sets of PID's with no luck. It recognizes the channel (KARK 4.1), the PID's it uses are 0x31 and 0x34. I also tried x11 and x14 as well as x21 and x24.

3kb files can happen on some streams when converting to mpeg2. If your intent is to convert to program streams then I would recommend buying a copy of VideoRedo instead of using H2M. Otherwise switch to creating a TS file for the output and it will probably work.
If this only happens with some files but not all files, then there might be something funky about them. Try running one through the "fix" option in the trial version of VideoRedo and see if that fixes it. If your intent is to convert to mpeg2 (program streams) instead of transport streams you should just buy yourself a copy of VideoRedo and skip H2M.
