Can someone explain the relevant differences between this device, i.e. the VGP-XL1B2, and the DVP-CX777ES, when it comes to mass-ripping?

I don't get it...

It's quite simple.

The VGP-XL1B2 connects to your computer using FireWire. So, your PC can read the disks, rip them, control the changer mechanism, etc.

The DVP-CX777ES is just a MULTIDISC PLAYER and can't be connected to your computer in any way that would allow the computer's software to control the disk changer. So, since you can't connect it to a computer, how could it used to do mass ripping?

Works great.
When I start up IMG Burn, it says, in the log file, that AnyDVD may interfere, make sure it is disabled. ???

But, apart from that, I only get I/O errors when I try to do anything, so I'm still a long way from getting anything to function.
