PowerDVD Ultra from Cyberlink $99.95

For it to work well you need either a mid-level or better AMD X2, a mid-level Core Duo 2, and an Nvidia 7600GT with HDCP... you may get buy with less but for it to really do its thing well, the more CPU the better. The 7600GT is just right and fairly cheap. I have the MSI NX7600GT Diamond Plus HDCP and AMD 5000+. it works great. When I can get a Blu-Ray or combo drive for cheap I will add it as well. This PC does Home Theater great!

Below is a bill of materials on my HTPC Careful shopping should beat these prices.

HP Pavillion m7640n AMD 5000+ MCE $839 after rebate
ATI Wonder 650 $130
7600GT HDCP $200
XBOX Add-on $140
PowerDVD Ultra $100
D_link Wireless USB Nic $69
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Total $1478

Just another blank signature.

I have a regular ATI Radeon 9200 series. Why do I need a video card that is HDCP ? I don't get why that matters at all?

like if you have the xbox 360, you are just able to use the add-on hd-dvd player without worrying about HDCP right? so why do I have to worry about it when using the add-on player with the computer?

errrr... it looks like it might just be cheaper and easier to get an xbox 360 with the add-on. The standalone hd-dvd players cost $500 anyhow, so xbox 360 = $300 + add-on drive = $150 for a total of $450. It's cheaper to go the xbox 360 route and you get a gaming console out of it too!

Because you won't actually get full 1080p unless the stream is HDCProtected. Design in mind with the motion picture industry...The input might be 1080p but I bet the set is displaying 1080i...

so right now you are saying that when I download these microsoft wmv-hd movie clips in 1080p and play them through my computer set at a resolution of 1920x1080, that the tv is not displaying the same 1920x1080 resolution of the video?
