I'm running my MCE2005 box and I've installed FFDShow and Purevideo but I notice that the CCCP pack (which I have installed on another desktop at home) has the Haali Media Splitter that comes on whenever I watch MKV files. What does it do exactly? Do I need it? Can I install it on top of an ffdshow install?

thanks

It is a splitter - it can parse MKV files, separating out the video, audio, and subtitles from them and pass them along to the appropriate video and audio decoders.

You need it if you want to play .MKV files. It can load filters automatically if needed - such as FFDShow for decoding DIVX or h.264 files.

Think of a splitter as a file parser.

Can I install it on top of FFDShow? Or should I have installed before FFD Show?
