I want to purchase a surround system for my plasma that can connect to my home network to play DVD's that I have on my media center PC. Today I use extended desktop to play the DVD's and use my PC speakers for the sound. I would like to use the surround system connected to my TV to play the movie audio.

The best sound bar none comes from an outboard A/V digital receiver and quality speakers and a subwoofer. You will need a client PC near the receiver to provide the SPDIF output.

If you have any extra cash spend it on better speakers. Get good wooden box speakers as big as you can afford.

The best sound bar none comes from a high quality soundcard coupled to a quality multichannel or seperate poweramps, along with quality speakers and a subwoofer. You will need a client PC near the amplifiers to provide the analog output.

If you have any extra cash spend it on better speakers. Get good wooden box speakers that sound the best to your ears.

PS.... down the road, if you start playing with HD audio of any sort, analog connections are MUCH less problematic....
