HERE

I thought this would interest people because this was the first results I've seen of nVidia's next-gen card, specifically of HD video decoding. As you can see from the results, as well as a good gaming card, it appears to be an excellent video performer as well.

Not a bad deal for $250.

maybe it's just me, but I'd say it's completely unnecessary to spend anywhere near $250 on and HD Htpc graphics card...

Of course in this case we're looking at it it's overall performance, and for $250 it comes very close to the $400 8800GTS/GTX, 2900, and draws less power, so it's a great deal. I expect ATI's new card to be similarly improved as well.

If you notice the model table, nVidia plans to introduce lesser models (which will probably be more appropriate for a HTPC) if you don't mind waiting. It's time for me to upgrade for both gaming and HD so this card will fit my needs perfectly.

Yeah, it's apparently internally using the same code for scaling/deinterlacing/denosing/etc as the 8600. The 8800 was actually first in this regard, they just copied the above into the 8600 (and the 8500 to a lesser degree, more limited because of fewer shaders).

I've been needing a new gaming/htpc card. The Nvidia 8800GT seems to be the one for me. I can't wait until it is available.

You might want to look at ATI's R670 based cards too. They are supposed to perform similarly (if not a bit faster) and support DX10.1.

Both chipsets should have cards available within the next 2 weeks.

I think at this point we have enough horsepower/features available even in the current generation of cards. What we need is better drivers that are more stable and exploit the current cards to their full potential.

Of course that will never happen, because the graphics card companies don't make money by writing better drivers. They make money by selling more cards. So, guess where this is headed?

Nothing wrong with ATI's Catalysts on Vista 64. I've been running them for about 6mos and they've been rock solid for me for the duration.
