Oops sorry I meant in the other thread that I have GGW and GGC.

Correct I wanted to rip, but if I'm going to buy one why not spend a few more and burn BR also. Thanks for the replies on this.

I ended up getting a GGW and the PowerDVD Ultra 7.3 that came with it just will not work. I can't get VLC to player a BR either. Any free software out there which will do HDDVD and BR?

Doesn't PDVD 7.3 ultra support HDDVD?

I think it should, but he said he couldn't get PowerDVD Ultra 7.3 to work, which is presumably why he's looking for other options. But he didn't give any details as to what isn't working / what the symptoms are as it's possible there may be a way to get it to work (though diagnostics might be best pursued in the appropriate PDVD thread)...

I sure thought so, but it kept telling me there are recent updates it I clicked no to the update it would not play the movie. I finally said yes the update happened and now it keeps saying I have the update, but won't play. I used to like PowerDVD, but this seems odd. I have a ticket out to Cyberlink maybe they have a patch. I even tried the new version 11 or 12 with no luck.

Anyone use the BAPlayer?

I can take a look at that thread now, basically it just will not play an BR or HDDVD, normal DVD's work fine.

IIRC, Cyberlink had to adopt DRM and the only way most us could keep this version alive was to use AnyDVD-HD, the entire mess with BluRay Live really fouled things up too. It got to a point that as each new BR movie was released an update was required. I and others eventually gave up on Cyberlink, who by the way eventually removed HDDVD support entirely from the PDVD offering.

I will probably retire the HTPC because of this and use standalone players for both HDDVD and BluRay.

Sounds like you need to go to cyberlinks website and manually dl the update. 4617 I think was the last build for HD DVD support I believe. You might want to also check the drives firmware version. http://www.lg.com/us/support-product/lg-GGC-H20L

Then you want this link to make sure you have the correct/latest firmware:

Not sure if 4617 will give you 6 channel decoded audio, or if you need it, but FYI in the old PowerDVD Ultra thread there was information what updates to apply and in what order, to get 5.1 decoded audio (the OEM 7.3 version is 2 channel).

Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone could tell me whether my excellent GGW-H20L is capable of writing to 100gb BDXL discs that have just entered the market from Panasonic and Sony etc?

Thank you.
