While my HTPC is going strong, my "HTPC Support PC" is having problems. It's based on a 6 year old Gateway full size tower PC, around an RS780 (rev 1.0) motherboard with an AMD Phenom 9550 quad 2.20 processor. Anyway, whenever it is shut all the way off, it becomes completely unresponsive to the power button unless I pull the CMOS battery (which I have replaced, without any change in behavior). It will then come back to life... I reset appropriate parts of the BIOS (Date, graphics setup, boot order) and it boots fine. If anyone has any idea how to fix this, please let me know! The PC is adequate for my support needs.
Anyway, if I can't fix it, it looks like I'm in for a new motherboard/CPU/memory. Looking for something with plenty of SATA ports (I've got 1x 2.5" SSD, 2x 3.5" drives, two optical drives) and the usual stuff, but it doesn't need to be latest greatest. A good deal on reliable time tested components would be fine, as I'm coming from a pretty old basis. I'm running Win 7 home premium x64... will try to get MS to let me port the license due to MB failure.
Any recommendations, either to fix the problem I've got now, or recommended replacement components? Thanks guys!
EDIT: My HTPC runs on AMD processor and ATI graphics (Radeon 5670 if I recall) so I'd prefer to keep my support PC on the same general platform, for testing things out. Switching to say Intel/Nvidia graphics is something I'd prefer not to do on the support PC unless there's a compelling reason to do so.
Sometimes, I see dead pixels...
