Ok guys, probably been asked before but here goes. I am thinking of grabbing the hd dvd add on to add to my PC as a playback device for HD DVD.
I have a

AMD 3600 + (single core) cpu
Geforce 6600 gfx card
1.5 gigs of DDR PC3200 ram

I'm sending to a panny 42 inch 720 p plasma

Will I be able to run it smoothly enough (even if I play from Hard drive) or should I just get a standalone player as a backup player instead of using the cheap hd add on??

The $50 ATI 3450 video card is probably the only thing you will need! Well you will have to purchase anyDVDHD and PowerDVD as well.

that's what I though on the GFX card. I'm in need of an upgrade on that badly anyways, probably grab the 8800gts. Luckily I already have PowerDVD and AnyDVDHD (I picked that up earlier when slysoft had a good sale).

no,
No system is ever good enough, always need that next upgrade.

That aside, an HDCM compliant video card should be all you need. 3450 will do the trick, but I went for the 3870 since I game a bit on the same computer.
