This video card looks great for an HTPC. It's $42.xx shipped after $50 rebate, and kicks arse for Gaming and Video.

Plenty of info in the deal thread

I'm guessing: HURRY

friendly nagging reminder:
The killer denon deal (I forgot to mention) doesn't start till 12:01 AM November 1, 2008. That is 'today at midnight'.

I'm in high heaven with my denon and which I could switch out for this one to get the hdmi. I have two hdmi switchers now, but not enough audio hookups on my denon! One hdmi would go a long way. Two would let me use two switchers. Since HDMI carries audio that is a lot of audio inputs.

Is the deal over??? Can't find it on the link you posted above. Really wanted to get one of these. Guess now I may have to wait until Black Friday.

It's still available for $350 plus $34 shipping where I live, which is still a pretty good deal even compared to the other several deals on denon receivers lately. But the 20% off code ($70) is now expired, which is tragic to an online deal 'hitman' like myself (a 'maverick' if you will).

Timing is everything; you 'd up.

http://www.shopbiglots.com/product/i...e=1&cp=3367512

I'm familiar with the receiver but not the speakers so I can't place a perfect assessment on the deal. It's possible it'd be a mistake not to buy it considering I saw different mediocre home theator system in the costco coupons for $50 off the regular $400 price.

If I were me you, I'd either get this system at $350 or--if you have time mindset--stalk black friday ads for a denon receiver and find some quality speakers on your own.

I find the denon receivers matched with a decent 24-bit sound card (I have a not-sexy creative x-fi, which sounds really nice (all the year old xp drivers issues have been resolved))

If you are looking for a good card look at m-audio, or just an x-fi on the cheap (dont get the 'audio x-fi' I'll skip the explaintion, but don't).

Quite frankly, the digital out from a mother board might be all you need, I haven't even figured that out since I've been continued to use the x-fi's because if I have something wonderful, I don't arbitrarily switch.

Thanks. I think I'll wait. I have a killer Yamaha receiver and a killer set of Boston Acoustics speakers, so I'm good there. My Sony receiver is pre-5.1 and is starting to crap out on the left channel. Typical of most Sony receivers. But the Infinity speakers are still rocking. So I do have time to wait. I don't need... just want!!!

I read the hdmi switch on that denon does not switch audio, it is only a video switch. That sucks. On the other hand, the $350 system goes for $600 at CC and $750 on amazon

I did a double-take. I just assumed when they added the hdmi inputs that you got more digital audio inputs, but that isn't true even in the 589 series. That is one very subtle point for me, because the Roku box will play 5.1 back only over HDMI, not optical, one is given to understand, when it is enabled.

Makes me very glad I got a 987 on that earlier deal you found.

Found my own. Buy.com had the AVR1708 listed for $298.74 plus shipping but there was an error on their website listing 6th Avenue Electronics having the same receiver for $198.74 (and free shipping ). I called 6th Avenue and they said they would honor the Buy.com error.

So if you call 6th Avenue direct, they will honor the $198.74 & Free shipping price. And most places were asking $30-$50 for shipping.

The FW poster hit it right on what I was going to say about them. These $5.45 clearence headphones are a one of the great budget headphones at regular price. At $5.45 we should all be handing them out to our relatives and especially their kids. Keep in mind kids have superhuman hearing that fades as we age.

The nice thing about these headphones is when you move the volume up from medium to medium/loud they sound even fuller. Most headphones crap out at an early volume.

They are earclips, not standard headphones. They are great for laptop bags. To keep the cable from tangling with the laptop power adapter I keep mine in a little nylon netted pouch thingy I got at 99 cent only store a long time ago. I'm pretty sure it's a makeup pouch, but since I got it at a 99 cent store it doesn't have 'girl style' to it (thank god). I like the fact that is a pouch made out of a nylon net grid because I can see what is in the pouch, the net is actually protectively thick, and stray grains of dirt fall out. I bought about 25 of them to put geeky cables in to prevent tangles. Works great. When I move I always put 2-3 cables per a cheap Stater Bros zip lock freezer bag (50 for $8). You'll never know how easy it is to pack and unpack to you do this once. But I gush blab.

These cables also have a volume dial up high on the headphone cable.. very practical. The clips pop off from the speaker part under stress, which might scare you the first time, but it's a good thing, a very good thing. They pop back on repeatibly reliably and firmly.

The one downside is they are an ugly replaytv grey color. I feel like I have dead fish eyes when I look at them. If I were smarter? I'd unpackage the 5 I got all at the same time, mask off the foam and paint them black by blotting them with a wide round flat brush. whatever

Anyone else here got a PS3? I got one about 4 months ago and have been playing alot over the last two months, almost completly the game Metal Gear Solid 4 (MGS4). MGS4 is on clearance for $19.99 at RATSHACK. In the rest of the world the price just dropped from $60 to $50. the sku # is 260-1110. Call a local store and ask if they have any in the district. Yesterday I called and found all 4 stores near me had one copy each.

Better be quick. The weekly flyer made no mention of it since it's a low inventory clearance item.

They have rachet and clank? and some football 09, and a few others as well.

I don't know anything about the vudo box, it might suck or be obsolete for all I know, but its price is much reduced right now from '$300' to $100.

Do your own research. I'm posting this in case it's sweet, though I have my doubts.

I own 3 Vudu's - they are sweet, and it is a great deal. I know for a fact that there will be some new features on the Vudu in a few months that will make this box very appealing - especially to ReplayTV fans.

nded,
I'm afraid to find out what the vudo features are. As far as the netflix ruko box I have boxed in a garage, I understand it will soon play amazon's video service. (Liz's netflix ruko box is hooked up and somewhat routinely used by both of us though.)

My latest thing I bought that I might soon ignore is a used $600-700ish electric guitar for $150, and a new $400-500ish amp for $200 shipped, in transit to be exact. I still don't have a guitar cable and will have to borrow a strap from a guitar hero guitar. Hey!, maybe I'll hook up the roku!

Harmony 880 $90
http://www.**************/forums/hot-deals/912328/

This isn't a 'grab awhile you can' deal, but if you are looking for a harmony 880, historically speaking this price is at the low end of the price cycle. However with this economy the price could very well be easily found for the same or less in the future.

also I haven't looked at shipping.

http://www.**************/forums/hot-deals/912328/

Maybe it's time to let the depression take it's toll on the price the Harmony One model. Wow, that sounded selfish.

this gps is easy to hack, and is dirt cheep. It is $70 after Staples EZ Rebate (which always come), and I used a $25 off code bringing it to about $50 even after tax and discounts. The deal is good till saturday (I don't know how many they have in their inventory)

note: the code I used to buy the first two expired, then--for the first time--I tried e-junkie. you paypal them .90 cents and they send you a staples code for 25 off 100.

http://www.**************/forums/hot-...word1=omnitech

I got 3 of them, one for liz, 2 for me (or 1 for me and one for some lucky unknown in the future). The hack I made can be copied to other sd cards and used on the other two with no added effort.

I got this one hacked to boot to 4 buttons to the left and a picture of that crazy cow I post sometimes to the right.

1> button one takes me to igo/mio's month old software 'amigo' which is great software
2> button two launches explorer. The desktop is shut off in this model(as far as I know) but I figured out where explorer is and launching it opens a folder. From the folder you can navigate up or into any folder, and run CE programs.
3> is a soft 'off' button (might change that later)
4> launches coreplayer (this could be launched from the folder, but deseaved a button), which plays movies and mp3s.

I have a bunch of little programs in folders. I saw some folder of programs and copied it to the gps sd card, then ran the programs from the gps. Any that were worthwhile and ran without having to be installed I kept. There's a bunch of freebeeis like system task managers, two-pane file, little games, media players..

6 hours of reading and tinkering later I have made a set of files that will get you going. Just place them on a blank sd card and it will boot up, if anyone wants me to upload a zip of em, let me know. You can deal with the gps software you want on your own. navigon, garmin, and tomtom are others people said they have installed. I installed navigon, but didn't like it. I like amigo. both navigon and amigo are super easy to install.

I just got a archos 605 wireless for $62 out the door.

Many Ritz Camera stores are going out of business and everything is clearance.

I saw the deal on Fatwallet (for the archos 405 at $45)
http://www.**************/forums/hot-...&keyword1=ritz

Then I went to the ritz store locator page
http://www.ritzcamera.com/webapp/wcs...0001&langId=-1
..put in my zip and called 4 stores in the area before finding one left

The store was 17 miles away.

When I got there I spotted a archos 605 wireless beside the archos 405 (which I believe does not have wireless, but is great too)

I asked her how much the 605 was and I thought she said $65. I said I'd take it. She charged me up and asked for $62.09 or something like that. I didn't get the 405, maybe I should of.

The only downside is archos wants money for plugins.. the web browser is $30, the internet radio is $20, and watching divx and replaytv video codec is $20. For more precise info see their web site.

I think I'm going to cough for the $30 browser. This city has free internet and I could walk around with the thing in my pocket.

If interested, I suggest you be quick to call the ritz in your area and snap it up.

Before I found one every ritz I called said they did have it, but were sold out.

the screen is really nice for video, btw, 800xsomething resolution

update: the $30 internet plugin does not work with starbucks interent or the free internet offered in this area. This is because because the archos browser does not support javascript.
info starbucks interent, and municipal internet not working:
http://forum.archosfans.com/viewtopic.php?f=25&p=101469

I'm devistated.

I called archos and explicitely asked if the $30 browser plug in was compatible with starbucks internet. I got a definate yes. I bought it. It connects at home (where I dont need it). I tried for a long time at starbucks, then called archos tech. The tech said they never heard of the problem, and put me through some pointless tasks. Then put me on hold for 5 min. He came back and talked to me a bit. I said I found it interesting that they haven't had a similar call in considering there are over 6000 starbucks across the country, and att covers many of them. He put me through some bs again, then on hold for 10+ min till I was disconnected.

Wow, what crooks. How can they straight out lie and take the money after being asked at point blank?, knowing starbucks/municipal internet doesn't work??

good thing I got the thing for $62 $92 bucks. ..except the fact that it is worthless to me now.

On ebay, I could have got all 4 plugins (internet included) for $30 (or 'make offer'), but I didn't do that.

It's pretty crappy for archos to sell a product (which is normally not cheap whatsoever), then turn around and sell 4+ plugins for $20 or $30 a pop that let you actually use the thing. I suppose I'm supposed to buy the other plug ins now? I might actually buy one, internet radio, so this thing has absolutely any use to me.

I wrote this post specifically in case someone else here got in on one of these.

If you need a set of plastic coasters, sure.

I haven't found any TDK blanks to be worth the laser time to burn. They all produce an inordinate amount of coasters for me, and the ones that don't come out of the burner unreadable are in that condition within 6 months.

Your mileage, as they say, may vary.

Interesting. I've had pretty good luck with TDK blank media in the past, although I tend to gravitate toward Verbatim whenever possible.
