It had to happen sooner or later I guess.

I have a 5040 (upgraded to 80GB). Worked like a champ all these years.

As of late (last few days) it has been losing it's input signals. Regardless of source, it will "blue screen" and tell me there's no input signal. Playing already recorded stuff on it still works just fine.

If I hard-boot it (power cycle), the inputs will come back for a while. Some times as short as < 1m, some times up to 10 minutes and then just *poof*.

Is it dead, Jim? I haven't tried to do any kind of factory reset but if folks think that would actually do some good I could.

Thoughts? Ideas?

I wouldn't hesitate to reload software on it from scratch.

The next step would be to acquire one of the many units coming on the market recently.

Or just get another 50xx and put your existing hard drive into it, and keep all your shows and whatnot.

When I've had problems like this, I think it was a power supply issue, or maybe that some of the grounding screws weren't tight enough. Check Mikeyboy's troubleshooting page (link is in the FAQ).
