When? Whenever ... understand the image may not be as great as you're expecting, especially if you have digital cable going into the Replay ... if you have a weak signal it could be even worse and on a big TV you're limited in what you should expect in the way of improved image quality.

To the optimist, the glass is half full. To the pessimist, the glass is half empty. To the engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

VGA-VGA is a standard cable that you can buy at any computer store. You will need to go into the setup menu and select the output you want. If you want YPrPb then you will need a VGA-RCA breakout cable. A liitle harder to find, but still available at many computer stores.

On some sets (i.e., those w/o a doubler or with a not great doubler), the picture is noticibly better at 480p, but it does depend on the base signal and the set it is connected to.

You can also use any normal VGA to BNC monitor cable (available from "buy.com" or any number of other places) with the addition of BNC to RCA converters available from "Radio Shack". A VGA to BNC monitor cable is more standard type of cable and is a lot cheeper than the VGA to RCA cables that are available. The only difference is that the VGA - BNC breaks out the signal into 5 parts which mean that 2 of the wires are not used when you are done. (White & Black). Otherwise there is no difference. It is just a cheeper solution to the same problem.

A decent set of cables is at ...

... for $50. I am guessing RS is the Black Hole of Death for this kind of thing.
