Very positive. SBLU has a buyer for the ReplayTV unit, which means our boxes should avoid "doorstop" status.

What about the lawsuit still pending in the courts?

Will that sour any buyout of replay assets. Because
you buy it and assume all legal debts! And SUITS!

I for one not looking forward to 3 Doorstops!

And what an interesting buyer it is! Denon! hmmmm HDTV PVR?

Wonder what the Opta Systems folks will do with the networked DVD player? I have (well had) one on pre-order.

Well, hopefully this is good for us.

D&M has been building a portfolio of high end home theater brands, starting with Marantz and Denon, and also recently acquiring McIntosh. It actually seems like a decent fit. I hope they fund R&D adequately. I'd hate it if Tivo was actually better than Replay (so we need to get some of these new features out before HMO happens.)

Bye-bye SONICblue, hello D&M, let's go Replay!

While they won't be doorstops, I doubt that the new owners will be pumping a lot into enhancing legacy products. Like the original Replays (and ShowStoppers), I think we can expect to see new development on the 4000 series stop pretty quickly, with their efforts directed towards new sales. The real question in my mind is whether or not they will stop the 5000 line in favor of something with in-house branding. Unlikely, but possible.

Also, I'm not sure how this bodes for show sharing/commercial advance. D&M doesn't appear to be the type of company who wants to fight those fights.

The true outcome remains to be seen. Everybody cross your fingers.

While I guess it is good news that someone will be buying Replay my optimism is certainly guarded at this point. Until I read something from these D&M People about their plans for supporting us I am certainly not going to get too excited.

Some concerns:

1. Will existing warranties, lifetime subscriptions, etc trasnfer over to D&M? I would assume so but you never know.

2. Will D&M keep show sharing and comercial advance around? This is the main reason I chose ReplayTV over Tivo.

Seems like fantastic news for this crownd -- assuming hte sale goes through as planned, the Replay business will be owned by a company with effectivley limitless resources.

I doubt they would give up the ReplayTV branding. They already have a long way to go against Tivo and it's marketing engine....I would doubt they want to start over at square one.

Two questions.
1. Will they pay rebates ? I have one shipped from amazon.
2. Is there any statistics on how many units are sold and how many are on lifetime subscription.
Depending on this statistics providing the service(Guide etc.) seems to be profitable business and somebody would take over it in any case. (I would do it myself ! :))

Here's the press release from last year announcing the merger of Denon and Marantz to form D&M: http://messe.harmony-central.com/Mus...tz-Merger.html

Seems from that press release that Phillips owns only 15% of the combined company and a company called Ripplewood Holdings owns about 70%.

And Ripplewood Holdings seems to be a private equity firm (e.g. LBOs) that owns a bunch of things, including D&M (Denon and Marantz) as well as Nippon Columbia (a recording label).

All lawsuits and creditor claims will be settled or acceptable to the purchaser before the buyout is completed, that is why the bankruptcy had to come first. If the purchasers of the assets can't get an acceptable settlement of all claims, they will walk away. I am sure any purchase agreements are subject to acceptable settlement of all claims and lawsuits. The purchasers could choose to continue some or all litigation and accept all debts but that is not likely.

Hey, man. As long as my Showstopper can continue to access the program guide for free then I am a very happy camper!

Well, I guess on one hand its good that ReplayTV with survive....so my unit will keep working and the one I just ordered won't be for nothing.

I guess I'm not going to get my rebates....but then I didn't buy because of the rebate....I don't allow the rebate offer or amount affect my decision on whether to buy something. Because sometimes I don't get the rebate (some companies won't take the Email confirmation as being a valid receipt, even though the online site calls it the receipt)...plus it takes so long that I have to pay the full purchase price first....

Well, actually I did let the rebate affect the timing of when I purchased my second unit.

Now I just wonder what to do about my SBLU stock....and where should I invest to continue to support ReplayTV?

I thought chapter 11 was for reorganization of a company. There's nothing left of SBLU after this that I can see.

Well, I hope they keep my showstopper guide going for free. Seems like it would be bad business to alienate good customers that will eventually need to upgrade (althought quite frankly, with a 120GB drive in my ss, i'm pretty content.)

I would like to get commercial advance but as someone posted, I wonder if D&M is the kind of company willing to fight the legal battles that put first Rio & then SBLU on the map.

That is one Brutal Message Board. I was looking at some of the name calling that goes on there.... That board, on its BEST behavior, is still far worse than anything I have seen on this forum.

Guess I am just naive.

I hope this works out for Replay. I am beginning to wonder as to when I should remove contact with the mother ship so that I don't lose CA and other desirable features.

Tax write-off, wallpaper, use it to light your fireplace . . . .

>>I thought chapter 11 was for reorganization of a company

Chapter 11 allows them to keep operating the business while selling off the assets. It also allows the current management greater ability to make the decisions about how to operate/sell off the business. In this kind of situation, many of the details of how the "reorganization" will occur are pre-negotiated with the lenders/buyers before the filing (final negotiations were probably the reason for the 2 day trading halt).

There's the whole "Rio" line of products, ie, the line that SB started with before buying up Replay and GoVideo.

So I have a 4516 ordered from Clearance due to arrive next week (it has been shipped already). Do I refuse delivery? Or is the consensus that everything will be OK?

I just bought a 4532 from SonicBlue from their sale website. Total price is $750. without a rebate, including the one time service fee! I have no regrets whatsoever, and am glad that SonicBlue decided to sell ReplayTV to what appears to be a decent company.

Here's my theoretical question: If I don't let ReplayTV call in and instead use it without an EPG and just set up recordings manually much like an unsubbed TiVo, is there any way in which presently supported features could be deleted, even if new ReplayTV models may no longer have such capabilities?

Perhaps some current ReplayTV models will become semi-underground items, much as Series 1 unsubbed TiVos; the early Apex DVD players with the "loopholes" menu; and the early models of Philips CD recorders which can be fooled into recording on computer CD-R's!
