So, I'm NOT a videophile. But I do have AT+T digital cable here in NH. Last week I got "the offer" to buy a ReplayTV unit from At+T that was designed to work with my specific cable service. The price seemed right and the functionality sounded good. So I bought. Since then, I've found this forum and have been periodically checking the postings. My unit arrived Friday (12/01) and I set it up Saturday (no major difficulties). Seems to work just like it was supposed to. My question is: should I feel disappointed? Don't think so. From the limited use I've given it, it does all that I expected. Anything in v3 that's not in the unit I got? Am I missing something here? My only gripe is that there's not a local phone call number to use but I guess that's not too major and subject to change. If anyone can shed some light for a neophyte, I'd appreciate it. In the meantime, I'll just plug along and enjoy what I've got. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the RTV forum!

I know you'll love your Replay box, and from what I've read, you'll see a ver 3.0 sometime in the future. You've already got functionality that us 3.0 users don't have, but I can hold down my right arrow button and breeze through the grid guide, rather than hit the button repeatedly. I don't use the manual recording feature, nor have a need for padding, but others use it all the time.

As I said before... Welcome!

WRONG!

Sort of...

(there is a pointer also to a third thread)

According to ReplayMike the ATT&T units are NOT updated along with "regular" Replay units -- so "upgraded" 3.0 features will not be available on these boxes (which run "ver 2.4") until they are specifically upgraded... Mike said he didn't know when that might be...

So... You get an easier setup, and some system specific functions (like parental control and PPV ordering) that folks with regular boxes don't get... but you DON'T get 3.0 specific improvements...

Also portability is a question -- Mike hasn't fully about whether this software will be available to general Showstopper/ReplayTV purchasers or if it will be "upgradeable" to normal software if you move out of the AT&T area --- it would suck if you bought this, and move to a Time Warner area and have an AT&T specific box!

ciao

Joe
