I wish to convert some DVD's to ReplayTV mpegs so that I can serve them from my DVArchive server. Primarily DVD's where I'm not interested in menus, extras, etc. Really, DVD's I'm just too lazy to run upstairs and grab. :D I also want to use ffmpeg so that I can script the process.

The source movie is 4 VOB files. I am able to convert them individually into mpeg files, then run them through rtvconvert. The question is, how to combine them with ffmpeg??? (I am able to combine them with either Womble or VideoReDo, but AFAIK, you can't script those).

This doesn't work . .
cat *VOB | ffmpeg -i - -target dvd -aspect 4:3 h3.mpg

Nor does this:
ffmpeg -i 1VOB -i 2VOB -i 3VOB -i 4VOB -target dvd -aspect 4:3 h3.mpg

Any suggestions? Is ffmpeg the wrong tool for the job? Am I nuts for attempting this?

Or I could probably merge the VOB's into one before converting into an MPEG. Know of any command-line (Windows) utilities that would work?

certain tools can convert un-copyprotected DVD to a single vob - DVDdecrypter was one... You could use vob-edit, I'd think too...

Thanks for the link. I don't make it to the DVArchive forums as often as I should.

After finding the DOS copy command, I found the equivalent in bash:

cat -B vob1 vob2 vob3 vob4 > newvob

Then I successfully converted with ffmpeg, then rtvconvert.

Now I'm getting the aspect-ratio problem as mentioned in this thread:

http://www.dvarchive.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2107

I used the ffmpeg settings that you used in your batch file, but now the picture looks stretched on the ReplayTV. Note that the exact same mpeg looks fine when played through WMP, VLC or Winamp.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Scott

I believe that you can script VideoReDo. For example, the batch processor just runs a script, which you can watch being processed.
