Hi pals!

I'm new to the active live in the forum. I've been a lurker for some time and now I have decided to kick off a project that I had in mind some time ago.

Well to cut the story short I plan to hack a common mp3 player so to getting "decent sound" out of a "decent interface". As you might guess my starting point is my beloved ipod 6th gen. Do anyone know what it is the builtin DAC crammed into this beauty? I mean the exact model and so on. I've not yet the tools for openening mine and you can save me one week of anxious waiting.

By the way I have like one month to achieve this.project so if anyone knows please write below, it's free!

Cheers,
Carlos

The AVS Forum is not into much digital circuit hacking!
Try the DIY Audio Forum:

Check out the web-site ' ifixit.com ' . There are step-by-step instructions on
how to disassemble, repair i-pods and also chip information and some other
technical data. You can order the unique little tools required as well.
Hope this is helpful to u.

While your project is a noble one, it would be more cost and time effective to start at the beginning. Mp3 and iTunes are lossy that is the compression process decreases sound quality. You can not recover this loss by simply running the digital data through some magic DAC, or then passing the analog output through some super wire, or audiophile anything...

Upgrade all your files to Apple Loss-less, FLAC, or even WAV format, and that does not mean taking a 128K MP3 and converting it to FLAC either. You will have to re-rip or repurchase anything that is currently in a lossy format.

A 'phile and his money are soon parted...
