There is a thread up in the audio forum all about this. No use repeating it here.

If you are thinking of buying separate power cables, you have not done enough research yet. Keep researching until you learn that it's a silly idea.

The "ends" or connectors all of these esoteric power cords are nothing more that stock electrical parts available at any electrical supply house, even home centers. Now they are what is knows as "specification grade" which is another way of saying commercial grade and they do cost more than residential grade parts. That said a good specification grade plug may retail for $10 while a residential grade may sell for $3.

These snake oil companies know this so that is why they resort to gold plating and cryo treating these commodity off the shelf parts. It's just BS to get more money out of you. Furthermore the modification of a UL listed product to be resold is illegal in many jurisdictions.

Anything Wattgate sells can be purchased at an electrical supply house at a fraction of what they charge. Now you won't get the gold plating, cryo treatment, and all the other magic pixi dust they sprinkle on, so you be the judge.

Frankly, a residential grade plug will work as well as a spec grade plug. However, if anyone wants to spec money upgrading their power connection, I would recommend replacing residential grade receptacles with spec grade or hospital grade receptacles, just because they grip better.
