Power to One Device to Control Another

I have an older Sharp Aquos flatscreen. I want to put another device in its cabinet and I want that new device to power up and down whenever the flatscreen powers up and down. There are no 110v switched outlets on the flatscreen and it certainly doesn't have power trigger circuitry. I realize I could buy a $35 power strip to accomplish this but that’s overkill. Is anyone aware of a small, inexpensive gizmo that will switch a 110v child device on or off whenever its 110v parent device is switched on or off?

Inexpensive? Probably not. If not the power strip, you need a programmable remote that can run macros. But that will cost more than $35.
