Hello folks,

I'm about to put together a SPdif cable for my Dvd player -> Reciever.
I've recently made 6 pcs. 1m(3ft) cables for analog 5.1 sound.. I used [93ohm - 15pF/ft RG62]. Is this cable also suitable for digital signals, like SPdif..??

Regards

Hi AK,

Ideally you'd want 75 Ohm coax, since that's what both ends are terminated with, but 93 Ohm coax gives you a VSWR of 1.24 : 1. That's very close to ideal (anything under 1.5 : 1 is generally OK), so it'll probably work just fine.

Lies, damn lies, and interconnects...

What's VSWR? :o

Would it be better using 75 Ohm for analog 5.1 sound too? And not 93 Ohm?

No, the characteristic impedence doesn't matter for analog audio, but it does matter for digital.

I personally wouldn't use the 93ohm cable for a digital interconnect. Stick with some good 75ohm cable. I like DIY and think the 1506A will serve you VERY well in this application. You can probably buy this by the foot from various retailers.

Ok, then thats what i'll do..:)

One more question..

I guess 93 Ohm coax will work fine as sub cable then..
