So far, we have Alan (APM) and Chuck T participating here. I hope to get more custom installers & designer types here as well. I've just invited Dennis Erskine, too. Dennis doesn't sell any equipment, but he designs home theaters architecturally, acoustically and electrically. And he can come to you and install a CRT you buy somewhere else, like from AV Science. Currently, Dennis has given me a good deal. I have a Crestron ST-1500C touchpanel. You don't want to know how long I've had it, and the programming is a bit beyond me. I've tried, but I always give up and go back to tweaking my home theater and audio system in other ways. Finally, I'm getting my touchpanel programmed, for a real reasonable price. Once Dennis completes the program, he'll e-mail it to me, and I can download it from my PC to my touchpanel (heck, even I can do that!).

Now I didn't say that I necessarily agree with Dennis re choice of speakers, tweaking, power conditioning, etc. Nor do I agree with Alan, or Chuck T, on everything. Variety is the spice of life. In this forum, I want to offer information, not just my opinions or experience. I want all of us to respect each other and different ways of doing things.

If Dennis wants to say tweak the THX way, I may find myself in disagreement at times - but that's ok. Here I luv PS Audio Power Plants - maybe someone will have another point of view. And mostly everyone here is afraid to spend some money on Bybee filters like I have - what is this room temperature superconductor submarine technology which couldn't possibly improve digital audio? Well, it does.

If you have some audio and home theater enthusiast friends, e-mail them and ask them to participate here in this forum. Here we can share our experiences and our opinions, but in a respectful manner, and we can all enjoy audio and home theater enthusiastically at the same time.

"Doug Winsor" used to troll at some AV Forums as "Steve Bruzonsky"! My home theater at:

HI:

I would be happy to help out and you can put me down as a tech. guy if you want for input. Most of the design work I've done has been working with my home theater designer/installer. He let's me do most of the work myself because of my background in computer science and electronics. About the only thing I can't do is calibrate a front projector according to ISF standard and other methods. General tweaking is about as far as I can go without going through training at Runco. However, I can do programming on Meridian audio products, Pronto Remote, Crestron and Lexicon remotes, audio cable runs, audio calibration, etc.

My installer knows how much I like tweaking and designing my own system, so it works good for both of us. If anyone needs some help, I'll try if I can so feel free to drop an e-mail. It might take a few days or so to get back but I'll always try.

Jeff

Regards,

Jeff

I found out today, that I've been flattered. At least I think I have. I didn't know the thing was being published and wasn't interviewed. We'll see.

Wow, Dennis!

That's amazing. And I thought the theater you designed for me was elaborate. If I send you a magazine copy will you sign it for me?

Now I'll have to have a small plaque made indicating that my theater is an Erskine Design original!

Congratulations!

Ted

Now, there's an idea. Maybe I'll have a few made up ... we can put 'em up after the calibration and just before the inauguration party gets too far "Bombay and Glen Fiddy challenged".

Congratulations, Dennis!

I'll take this opportunity to mention that Dennis has done a wonderful design for my theater room too, way better than anything I would have ever come up with on my own. Now all I need to do is find a contractor who has time to build the thing (it involves removing a load-bearing wall, way beyond my meager home-improvement skills!)

Greetings:

I too am the hopeful benefactor of a Dennis Erskine design. Hopeful because my construction will not begin in earnest for another few days at least, and it is a major undertaking in an unfinished basement for a DIY wanna-be.

I am very opinionated and outspoken, and could wax poetic ad nauseum about the real and intangible value Dennis provides his customers through his learned experience, love of his craft and profound patience. Rather than do so, I'll keep it simple and clear: Dennis is worth every penny of his modest fee and I only only hope that I am able to bring to fruition the shared vision of a truly enjoyable, collaborative process.

Best Regards,

Darryll D. Petrancuri

OK guys. Lets not make Dennis into a religious or cult icon! Ha! Dennis is a great, telented guy. More important, my impression is one of competence and take care of the customer. But all this has been amply demonstrated - so lets continue this thread by e-mailing any other custom installer who we know and ask them to contribute to this thread and to this forum.

Does that mean I have to remove that little statue of Dennis from my desk?
