The McIntosh McAire standalone speaker system is designed to let you enjoy media wirelessly via AirPlay. It includes both Wi-Fi and Ethernet hookups, as well as a USB port and an RCA input for other devices. However, the dual 4-inch woofers, 2-inch midranges, and .75-inch tweeters are the true stars of this package.

The McIntosh McAire ain't your average AirPlay unit. The 31-pound shelf-sized system packs two 4-inch woofers, two 2-inch midrange drivers, and two 3/4-inch tweeters. The company's components are surely impeccable, but will the quality of the streaming audio be good enough to impress absurdly discerning audiophiles?

What do you guys think of this little beauty?

Usually, if one has to ask the price, one cannot afford it. I researched this, and that it true in this case: McAire is introductory priced at $3000 eek.gif

$3,000 on a device that depends on software du jour is not a very wise investment. Looks really nice though.

Well, I guess it's cheaper than their last bookshelf all-in-one system. The previous model was around 8K.

Maybe its just me, but I getting kind of tired of the Mac "Blue Meters" becomimng so predominate across their product line. I think they are producing some pretty good stuff, but getting cheesy with beigger and bigger blue meters

This ain't no party, this ain't no disco

Even IF I were able to afford McIntosh products, if this is any indication of where this company is going post-acquisition by Fine Sounds - they are dead to me...

The McAire was shown off in prototype form a couple years ago at CES 2011 so it was in development long before the acquisition by Fine Sounds. Hopefully they will get them back on track. I don't have a problem with them making "lifestyle" products as long as they are on par with the rest of their lineup but this clearly isn't. Note how they do not disclose power or distortion specs?

So it's the blue meters that make all there equipment so expensive?
