Microsoft revealed Tuesday three Entertainment For All Plan package options for its Xbox 360 gaming console, when users agree to a two-year subscription commitment to the Xbox Live Gold online gaming service.

Quote:
Under the new deal, consumers may purchase the original 4GB console with the Kinect motion-control system at $99, a 250GB option without the Kinect attachment for $99, and a 250GB version with Kinect for $149. All plans require a two-year subscription at $15 per month to Xbox Live Gold.

Worth picking up now?

Not worth it. At Newegg you can buy the 250gb Holiday Bundle (with Forza 4 and Skyrim dl) with two 12 month XBL Gold codes and a Plantronics headset for $363.96.

So you're basically paying $95 in interest for those two years. Might as well charge it.

Respectfully disagree. IMO, this is a great option rolling into the Holiday season for those who can't afford the whole kit and kaboodle up front. Even though you are eventually paying a bit more, think of it as a slight interest charge, or a courteous charge for the 2 year payment plan-ish thing. I dig it Microsoft.

I can see it being good for certain people/situations. I guess at least Microsoft are trying different paying models.

What would stop people from using a prepaid card for the first month then stop paying?

You consider 26% extra a slight interest charge?

People in these situations probably shouldn't be buying game consoles. This is exactly the oh so upstanding "rent to own" model.

I hardly want to pay the $59 now for Live services, Microsoft charging $15/month is just absurd. Im sure people will go for it, once you look at how cheap the consoles are, they will overlook the price gouging on the Live services.

I'm saying that I think this allows a certain number of people who previously could not afford a console outright, the opportunity to own one. Why is this a bad thing?

Micro$oft only did this to make banhammers hurt more for people modding or people who play leaked or early shipped or purchased copies of games, this is a good sign for the modding community because it shows they are desperate and have no way of stopping it....

DOWN WITH MICROSOFT AND UP WITH OUYA!!!!!
