Apple today officially revealed the iPad Mini, a slimmed-down iPad model with a 7.9-inch display.

iPad mini measures just 7.2mm thick and weighs .68 pounds – just about half what the 10-inch iPad weighs.

Under the hood it’s similar to the iPad 2. It will be sporting iOS 6 along with the same A5 dual-core chipset, and offering a 1024×768 touchscreen display at 163ppi (lower than “retina” density). It also will be ensurie full backwards compatibility with existing apps.

Pricing for the iPad mini starts at $329 for 16GB wi-fi and $429 for the 32GB Wi-fi model and $519 for 64GB. How about the LG LTE version? You’re looking at $459 for 16GB, $559 for 16GB, and $649 for the 32GB model.

What model sounds good to you?

Still pricey but I guess that's accepted. For my purposes the wifi is enough as I can tether with my phone and that seems enough.

Yeah, I only use wi-fi for my tablet. No need to have another data plan for it.

I am disappointed by the price point. Thought they were going to swim in the same waters as the Kindle.

Agreed on the data plan.

very pricey and a surprisingly lower resolution 1024x768 screen since they like to push "retina dsiplay" with other devices. The 7" Kindle Fire is $160 with 8GB and a 1024x600 screen. The 7" Kindle Fire HD is $200 with 16GB and a 1280x800 sceen. The 7" Nook HD is $200 with 8GB(plus a microSD slot for expandable storage) and has a 1440 x 900 screen.

Does anyone know what screen they are using and who manufactured it? I heard Samsung is going to stop selling to Apple because of all their legal troubles.

Looks like a decent option for a home automation touch pad. Probably way cheaper than a custom solution.

But still well more expensive than a 7" Android tablet, which are probably better for home automation stuff due to their software customization options.

4:3 aspect ratio. Less than HD resolution. $329 price point for 16GB? I'll stick with the Google Nexus 7.

I think Samsung should sue them because it looks too much like my Galaxy Tab 10.1. The ipad is square but this looks retangular like the Tab. Apple has sued for less.

I doubt there is anything as powerful and easy to use and program as Roomie Remote for iOS - I've got three rooms already set up on 5 iOS devices utilizing both IP and IR (via iTach IP to IR wonder boxes) It is awesome...

Ill be ordering mine friday as soon as pre orders are accepted. Yea, $329 is more than I would have liked to pay, but this will be my primary remote for my theater using irule and itachs.

Agreed on the data plan.

If they did that, they'd undercut the 5th gen iPod touch, which they won't do.

And Amazon sells their Fire family of devices at a loss, which Apple never has.

Wait for Google's party on Monday. They may drop the price of the Nexus 7 and even at 200 the nexus 7 just destroys any of the ipads. I got a nexus b/c my Dell Streak 7 broke frown.gif and its awesome

I'm an Android user, that is both my phone and tablet are Android-based. But I still wish I had an iPad, they are pretty slick. I would also love one of these minis, just for certain things. I use my girlfriends from time to time. But Apple has to enter this market and they would be foolish not to.
